About the adventure

Free Session 0! Want to try Starfinder Second Edition, but don't know where to start? Want to try out a class without joining a full length campaign? Come join us as we dive into the system with pregenerated characters. This campaign will most likely only be around 4-6 sessions, give or take (not counting Session 0). The perfect way to get your feet wet in a new game system or to try out different classes. There's 6 pregenerated characters to choose from, but I'm also open to working with you to build whatever SF2e options you want and making it fit the story. (Note: Pathfinder options not allowed. If test driving Pathfinder options in Starfinder games is something you're interested in, please reach out to me. I plan on running either this Adventure again or something else for level 1 PCs with PF2e options allowed.) "A strange message beckons six strangers to Striving, an expansive megaplex city on Aballon, the planet of Machines. There, they gather in a neon-lit cafe, surrounded by androids and robots, to meet an old friend. The bartender brings them refreshments—and a holographic recording from their mutual acquaintance. "Greetings, friends! If you’re watching this, it’s because I’ve experienced an unexpected shutdown—in organic terms, I’m dead." The discovery of their friend’s unexpected murder turns these strangers into a crew of unlikely investigators. To find the killer, they’ll need to outrun murderous robots, outwit clever foes, and analyze perplexing clues—all while wondering if they’re hunting the murderer, or if the murderer is hunting them! The streets of Striving can be an unforgiving place, and the investigators will need all their skills, resources—and no small amount of luck—to come out ahead, solve the murder, find the killer’s hideout, and bring them to justice!"

About me

Hello there, fellow nerds. My name is Dan and I am a life-long GM who would love to run a campaign for you. I have been GMing games since D&D 3rd edition, kept going through 3.5, then Pathfinder 1e, and now both Starfinder and Pathfinder 2e. I genuinely love nerding out about ttrpg mechanics, but the most important thing is story. Well, actually, story is the second most important thing. The number one most important thing is that my players are having fun. Fortunately, as far as I'm concerned, the three usually go hand in hand. Lately, I have been running Paizo's wonderful pre-written adventure paths, but with plenty of homebrew and customizing to my players' backstories, motivation, etc. I will work with you before the game starts to help you build your character as little or as much as you'd like, and will provide players guides which will allow you to make characters perfect for the plot (if you so choose) by going over some common themes, factions, regions, etc, that might show up during the campaign. Even if you don't tie your character into any of these prompts, I will still find a way to weave everyone's character arcs and the main plot together, so that we may tell a story all our own. Even though these adventures are pre-written, I allow room for creative problem solving at any point. If the book doesn't have the answers you need or didn't consider the path you choose to take, I will make it work through a combination of homebrew, improv, and experience. Over the years, I have taught many people how to play these (and similar) games, and absolutely welcome players entirely new to role-playing games. That said, you old grognards are welcome, too. Whatever your experience level, I can't wait to adventure with you!

Character creation

Creating your character

This Adventure uses pregenerated characters with ties to the plot. There are 6 characters to choose from. If none of them seem interesting to you, you can make a new 1st level PC with whatever SF2e options you'd like, as long as you work with me to make sure it still fits the story.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll need to join my discord server and Foundry table, so you'll need a decent computer and microphone. Nothing else required.

What Subterran Dan brings to the table

I have the fancy Foundry module with all the lighting and audio bells and whistles, and will provide you with everything you need to play. As the purpose of this campaign is to learn the rules, we will be sticking to Rules as Written most of the time, though I'm not above an occasional Rule of Cool moment or two per session.

Homebrew rules

No homebrew rules for this one, since the goal is for players to learn the game mechanics as-is.

Safety

How Subterran Dan creates a safe table

This isn't a particularly heavy or emotional Adventure that requires lots of safety tools, but as a rule I'm always available to chat about safety tools if you'd like to request them. As it stands, I will do my best to make sure everyone feels safe and comfortable at the table and check in with any players causing issues, without needing to be asked.
