About the adventure
The Shattered Plains are dangerous enough—but when a colossal chasmfiend crashes your expedition, survival becomes a desperate struggle. You and your companions tumble into the depths, far from safety. Now, among broken bridges and glowing lifespren, you’ll have to rally survivors, scavenge for supplies, and push onward into long-buried ruins. This one-shot is a perfect introduction to the Stormlight Archive roleplaying game, designed for 1st-level characters. You don’t need to know the novels or the world of Roshar to dive in, just bring your creativity, teamwork, and a willingness to take bold risks. Choices matter here: will you protect others, seize your own freedom, or blaze a path through sheer determination? Expect fast-paced action, dramatic choices, and cinematic moments worthy of a Sanderson novel. Whether you’re a bridgeman pressed into service, a curious scholar, a sharp-eyed scout, or a weary soldier, you’ll have chances to shine in both combat and roleplay. If you’ve ever wanted to step into the world of the Stormlight Archive, or you’re just curious about trying a new fantasy RPG with epic scope, this adventure will give you that taste of heroism. And who knows? A spren may be watching, ready to bond with those who dare to live by their Ideals.

Meet the Game Master
About me
My first experience with TTRPGs was two and a half sessions of Rolemaster. If you know that system, you know it's not the greatest starting point for a beginner. Added to that, our GM was trying to run this game while taking care of a newborn and finishing up med school. Despite the rocky start, I was hooked, but I didn't know anyone else at the time who could run a game at all. So I started my own D&D campaign and have been GMing ever since! I run RPGs for the stories, the surprise, and the drama. My goal is always to create an atmosphere where the whole group can explore the stories that interest them. My favorite moments in any game are when things feel cool, cinematic, heartfelt, or badass. That moment when the barbarian leaps through the wall of flame, clothes smoldering, screaming in rage. Or that moment when the Netrunner finally breaks into the top-secret mainframe to loot secrets from the rich and powerful, as a desperate firefight rages around them. But most importantly, the very best moment is when I can tell that the players have forgotten that they're sitting in a chair at a desk, and are having a shared experience that takes them away from their lives and which they'll remember for years. But I've never been satisfied with just a standard D&D campaign or two; I've run games in a dozen or so systems at this point, and I'm always excited to try new ones! I even have experience running custom one- and two-player campaigns, which can be a great way to have a more in-depth, character-driven experience, and also help to alleviate scheduling difficulties. If you're interested in something like that, please feel free to message me or hit the button that says "Book GM," and we can start talking about the specifics!

Creating your character
For this one-shot, I’ll provide pre-generated characters so we can jump straight into the action! All characters start at level 1. You don’t need to bring any materials or prior rules knowledge; everything you need will be ready for you when you connect to start the game!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Before the session, please make sure you have a free Roll20 account (for character sheets and maps) and Discord (for voice and pre-game info). I’ll provide the links you need once you’re signed up. If you’d prefer, you can use Demiplane to track your character sheet, though that will mean keeping an extra browser tab open. Check your audio setup before the game: a headset or push-to-talk is recommended so background noise doesn’t distract the group. No need to read the rulebook beforehand—I’ll explain what you need as we play!
What Colby brings to the table
You’ll be given a pre-generated level 1 character, ready to jump into the action. You can customize details like name and personality to make the character your own. Expect a session that blends cinematic action, tense survival moments, and roleplay opportunities. I’ll be running rules-as-written to ensure clarity, but I lean toward a cinematic “Rule of Cool” style, rewarding creativity and bold ideas!

How Colby creates a safe table
The Stormlight Archive novels are best known for three things: - Incredible world-building and a setting completely different from anything else you've seen in fantasy - Massive page counts - A magic system largely based on the main characters' struggles with mental health. This last factor can't be overstated, in that your character will be as broken as they are heroic. Therefore, mentions of trauma, abuse, grief, addiction, and severe mental disorders are integral to the setting. I will not shy away from this theme, so if any of these topics could be difficult for you, please be prepared to talk about your boundaries before our game starts!
