About the adventure

“The mists of Barovia do not forgive, and they certainly do not forget.” Welcome to a world where the sun provides no warmth and the mists never truly lift. You have been pulled from your home into the Domain of Dread, a fractured realm ruled by the iron will of Count Strahd von Zarovich. This isn't just a quest to slay a monster; it is a psychological struggle to maintain your humanity while the land itself tries to break you. ⚠️ This is not your standard run of Barovia. This campaign features an "Expanded Director's Cut" of the adventure. I have seamlessly integrated the best community overhauls (ex. DragnaCarta, MandyMod, Lunch Break Heroes) and expanded lore to provide a truly unique experience. You can expect deeply rebalanced combat that avoids the notorious low-level "meatgrinders," rich political intrigue, and a narrative-heavy epic where your character's backstory is woven directly into the dark history of the valley. It relies heavily on the Curse of Strahd Rules As Written (RAW) but I solved commonly problematic areas and tied loose ends in terms of narrative. 🥇 These are by no means alterations that hinder the experience; on the contrary, I chose to implement these changes so that you get to experience the best version of this classic story without straying far from the RAW Curse of Strahd. We begin our journey at Level 1 (2014 Rules) within the unsettling walls of Durst Manor. As a DM, I lean smoothly into the Gothic Horror atmosphere; expect high-tension roleplay, terrifying moral dilemmas, and a world that reacts dynamically to your every move. Prepare for a game where the music, the lighting, and the stakes are all meticulously tuned to keep you on the edge of your seat. In Barovia, there are no easy victories, and the Count is always watching. 🦇 Are you ready to face the shadow?

About me

Heyy heyy! Glad to see you here! I've been DMing for 3 years now and I now DM at my local game store! Although I'm no veteran, I fell in love with the game quickly and absorbed it's rules like a sponge. I have been told by my players that I truly was able to get them in the right mood and mindset with my storytelling and the atmosphere I create at the table whether through music, lights or the small things I add to fit the theme. I love DMing and I hope to have you join my table so we can tell great stories together!

Character creation

Creating your character

Ruleset: 2014 5e Rules. Level & Progression: Start at Level 1. We use Milestone leveling (tied to major narrative achievements) to keep the story flowing. Stats & HP: 27-Point Buy. Max HP at Level 1 (no rolled/manual HP). We will be using encumbrance rules to add to the survival-horror feel! Allowed Sources: All official 2014 5e books. Homebrew/Unearthed Arcana classes are generally not used, but if you have a specific thematic concept, let's chat! Generous Starting Gear (you will most probably need it in Barovia 😅🥲): Barovia is deadly, so you start with a slight edge! You get your standard class/background gear, plus: 1 Healing Potion (Do not enter the mists without it!) 1 Common Magic Item (Any official common item to fit your backstory). 1 Gothic Trinket (An heirloom or keepsake with no mechanical stats, just pure flavor). A FREE Session 0 is included. If you are new or confused, I will happily walk you through character creation step-by-step.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Don't worry, the technical side is easy and completely free for you! You will need no subscriptions at all, just free accounts! A Discord account for voice chat (and optional video chat) and our private community hub. A D&D Beyond account to build your character sheet. A Forge VTT account to access the game. Note: I handle all the importing! You just build your character on D&D Beyond (under our campaign), and I will magically port it over to our virtual tabletop.

What Lucy Moon brings to the table

Premium VTT Experience: We play on Foundry VTT (hosted via The Forge), featuring dynamic lighting, multi-level maps, line-of-sight fog of war, and custom soundscapes to make the horror feel incredibly real. No software downloads required! The "Director's Cut" of Barovia: I utilize the best, community-vetted fixes and expansions (combining the best of the major Curse of Strahd overhauls and community cleared mods) to ensure a terrifying, cohesive, and deeply satisfying narrative. Full Content Sharing: You will have access to my entire D&D Beyond library for character creation (PHB, DMG, Tasha’s, Xanathar's, Van Richten’s, and more). A Living Community: You aren't just joining a game; you’re joining a supportive Discord community. You’ll get a private campaign category for your party's notes and lore, plus access to a "Tavern" to hang out with players from my other games. Character-Driven Storytelling: Your backstory will matter. I run a fail-forward style of storytelling where combat is cinematic and your choices permanently alter the valley.

Homebrew rules

I offer a few optional rules to heighten the Gothic Horror immersion. These are entirely group-dependent, we will vote on them during Session 0! Blind Checks: Certain checks (like Stealth or Perception) are rolled blindly so only the DM sees the result. This prevents meta-gaming and keeps the suspense real! (e.g., You don't know if that shadow is a monster or just a tree branch until you get closer). Hidden Death Saves: Death saves are rolled privately between the player and the DM. It keeps the stakes incredibly high, as the party won't know exactly how close you are to the edge. Critical Initiative: Roll a Natural 20 on initiative? You get to choose exactly where you want to go in the turn order once it’s set, giving you a massive tactical advantage.

Safety

How Lucy Moon creates a safe table

I take safety tools very seriously, especially in a dark setting like Curse of Strahd. My tables have a zero-tolerance policy for any kind of hostility toward other players. We use multiple safety tools to ensure a fun, supportive, and respectful environment: A dedicated Session 0 to align expectations and establish boundaries. Lines & Veils and the Monte Cook Consent Checklist (handled privately before the game). X, N, and O Cards available during live play. Your comfort matters! We are here to be terrified by the game, not by each other.
