About the adventure

Your crew might be a band of aeronautical pirates with hearts of gold, a specialized team of cloud trawlers and ancient tech researchers, or some runaways on a barely floating junker. However your crew formed, your ship is among the first in recent history that are capable of navigating to distant skylands. The skies are full of wonders to discover, cultures to connect with, and forgotten mysteries to solve. Of course, the skies are dangerous and neighboring skyland nations have already begun forming rivalries. Fabula Ultima is a system inspired by classic JRPGs such as Final Fantasy. The adventure's theming and world is created as a group effort. With highly customizable characters and giving several narrative tools to players, the game lends itself well to heroic tales of exploration, magic, and challenging villains.

About me

Hi! I'm Cloud Draxie, GM, artist, and overall tabletop and board game enthusiast. As a GM and as player, I value the fun of everyone at the table and support the cooperative nature of TTRPGs. I require my entire table to be LGBTQ+ friendly. I also require that the party be a team in and out of character, meaning there is normally no PvP or stealing from other PCs in my games. My main games are Pathfinder 2nd edition and Upwind, but I like to learn and try out new games too. I enjoy telling stories with my players and challenging them with tough but winnable encounters. I learned game master largely in online settings, so I am quite comfortable running sessions over voice chat and on virtual tabletops, namely Discord and Foundry VTT. Because I always like to have a unique representation of my own characters and understand that some of my players feel the same, I can offer to draw personal little portraits to be used as player tokens in my games that last more than a few sessions.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will begin near the end of session 0, once the group has all contributed their ideas to the world and come up with a unifying theme for the group. I advise against fully building a character before then, but players are more than welcome to theory-craft. Characters start at level 5, splitting levels between two to three classes, as normal. The core rule book and supplementary atlases (High Fantasy, Techno Fantasy, and Natural Fantasy) will all be available to use. Third-party options are available if the entire party approves of using them.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need access to a non-mobile web browser to access Forge and Foundry, a discord account and a decent microphone, and a relatively quiet place to to play.

What Cloud Draxie brings to the table

As the GM I will bring the virtual tabletop, maps, tokens, and other resources needed to play. I also provide music and can offer simple art for character tokens or places to find your own. Encounter difficulty will be adjusted to the group's overall preference, but I generally aim to provide a challenge without slowing the game to a crawl. I tend to stick to rules as written unless rules become a hindrance or players wish to be more creative than the system accounts for.

Homebrew rules

I tend to use simplified initiative rules: the player characters go first unless a villain is present. I'm open to additional variant rules such as quirks and camping activities, but I discourage variant rules that grant EXP unevenly.
