About the adventure

This campaign is a technical exploration of the Guilt of the Grave World Adventure Path. Players act as specialists sent to the irradiated remains of Tykhen to investigate the disappearance of the Arcanamirium research team. This is a Gothic Sci-Fi environment where tactical navigation through hazardous atmospheres and haunted ruins is required for mission success. The table environment is grounded in group learning and will be welcoming to those who are receptive to being corrected or providing corrections as needed. This is a saloon door; it will swing both ways; feedback is meant to be welcomed and, in turn, provided to help ourselves and our fellow players. I had a teacher well into her 60s or 70s at the time, tell me, "The moment you stop being receptive to being wrong and no longer believe that you don't know everything, will be the day you stop learning. For when you listen to each other, even during a topic you consider yourself an expert on, you'll either give someone the chance to develop a spark for the topic you hold dear, or you'll be surprised and learn something new." So, I am seeking players who value learning, respectfulness, and are open to mechanical feedback without becoming hostile or defensive when being corrected, and can provide feedback to others without talking down to them. Jokes and light-hearted game play are always welcome, but if your character is built on a joke, it will get very old, very fast. Every participant’s backstory must explicitly state a logical motivation for maintaining unit cohesion and working within a team, and is not publicly or secretly based on party betrayal or conflict. Trust and communication are the cornerstones of teamwork and success. I try to maintain a high standard of professional conduct. Every individual is welcome regardless of sex, gender, or life circumstances. However, professional conduct is an absolute requirement. Harassment—including derogatory humor—will result in an immediate warning followed by dismissal from the game. This campaign is intended for players who are comfortable with the established themes and do not require heavy modifications to the core content.

About me

Hello! o/ I'm Steven. To me, family is my first priority, always. My wonderful Wife, our two perfect kiddos, and two sweet Corgis. Which leaves me with a schedule that doesn't hand me much breathing room after 8 PM. I run on Red Bull, protein, and spite, and I have made my peace with that. Sleep is for when I'm dead... By day, I am a sysadmin running IT infrastructure, not the generic help desk kind, but think air-gapped government servers, high-powered engineering computing studies, and hardware development. By night, I am a Professional Dice Dwarf. Not enough to be a Goblin, but what I do own is almost entirely metal, stone, or aggressively shiny. I stand by the distinction. My hobbies live in that last chapter of the day, which makes them precious. Tabletop RPGs are the main event: Pathfinder 2e, Fabula Ultima, and Starfinder 2e. PC gaming runs a close second, heavy on CRPGs, JRPGs, and action-adventure. Anime fills the gaps, Isekai and Shonen mostly, with the occasional chaotic wildcard to keep people guessing. On the bike, in the car, or grinding through work, audiobooks are playing in the background. LitRPG, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Historical Fiction. I also build Discord bots as a hobby. Abyssal Engine handles Fabula Ultima Play-by-Post. Pocketful fills the inventory gap that Avrae never got around to adding without mods. And then there is Skyrim... I have stopped fighting it. The bug finds me once a year, puts a stranglehold on my brain, and the ritual begins. It has been this way since 2011. There is no escaping it. If any of that sounds familiar, we will probably get along just fine! Character creation

Creating your character

You can prebuild before session 0, should you wish, but we will go through the characters and their backstories during session 0. However, I will request/require a specific detail explaining your character's long-term motivation to work with the team, and your end goal should revolve around their success, being your success. You must define your relationship with the dwarven mining conglomerate or explain why you have accepted a "hero for hire" contract for this specific historical stabilization mission.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

First and foremost, every player will be required to use a USB (or better, so like a 3.5mm with mic also works) Headset (not a built in laptop microphone or webcam mic), being able to hear each other is the most important piece of cooperation! Plus by using a headset there is a significant reduction of background noise and disruption to the other players. --- Discord for voice chat (Possibly Stoat or Fluxer down the road) and a Sqyre account (for joining my FoundryVTT Table). --- Pre-cursor to the Safety topics!! PLEASE READ BELOW: Players must be comfortable and capable of dealing with the following CORE Themes and Content of this AP on their own: --- Primary Themes: Gothic Science-Fantasy: The intersection of advanced technology and ancient necrotic energy. Necromancy & Undeath: Frequent interaction with sentient and non-sentient undead entities. Gore: Graphic depictions found in Eoxian theatrical productions and medical facilities. Scientific Mystery: Systematic investigation of a post-apocalyptic planetary collapse. Corporate Negligence: Ethical failures in mining and tourism conglomerates. Isolation: Survival in a lethal, irradiated environment far from central support. Content Warnings: Death and Mass Casualty: Exploration of a world where a planetary-scale extinction occurred. Ghostly Presences of passed on individuals: Interaction with "The Wailing Ones"—remnants of those who perished in the collapse. Radiation and Toxic Environments: Constant environmental threats requiring protective gear and resource management. Madness and Psychological Strain: Mental fatigue caused by the planet's necrotic resonance. Body Horror: Undead entities and biological corruption resulting from radiation exposure. Post-Apocalyptic Despair: Depictions of abandoned cities and the futility of past civilizations.

What Steven brings to the table

I will sometimes do some voices when the mood strikes, but generally, I am either incapable of character voices or they are inconsistent at best. I provide a professionally managed FoundryVTT server with high-fidelity tactical maps and atmospheric audio. The GM style is grounded in logic and technical accuracy, prioritizing a "Safe Path" for the narrative while maintaining intense, engaging encounters. I tend to lean into Rules as Intended less than Rules as Written; however, I am open to Rule of Cool-lite if the moment calls for it or could benefit from it. However, jokes, memes, and outlandishly unserious ideas should be tempered or avoided entirely.

Homebrew rules

Variant Rules: • Pathfinder 2e (ORC) Content Allowed! • Free-Archetype • Ancestry-Boost • Gradual-Ability Boost • Uncommon or lower are unrestricted; you must ask for and be APPROVED for Rare or higher if you can come up with a justification for them, either via Backstory or Build. Homebrew: • Free extra 5 GP (50 Credits) to start with. • Streamlined healing and downtime activities, such as Crafting, Study, or Intrigue. • During a long rest, HP, Spells, and consumable resources are assumed to be fully recovered (outside of certain status debuffs). • You may spend 1 Action to Stow, Draw, and Reload a weapon. If a class had this per a Class Feat, then we can come up with something for them to get as a bonus instead. • Bullets, Energy, and Plasma, etc., are non-recoverable unless you have a Spell or similar to do so. However, not really relevant for this AP, but Arrows ARE assumed to be recovered immediately after combat, even if rushed out for a chase scene.

How Steven creates a safe table

I will send out a simple Lines and Veils document before we play a single session. Session 0, we will go over the answers anonymously and how we will handle the issues should they arise. I don't really have any "aftercare" as I am specifically looking for players who are good with the content as-is, but for extreme topics the game may discuss or present, we can tweak some as needed. --- Again, I will reiterate the content from further up, but Players must be comfortable and capable of dealing with the following CORE Themes and Content of this AP on their own: --- Primary Themes: Gothic Science-Fantasy: The intersection of advanced technology and ancient necrotic energy. Necromancy & Undeath: Frequent interaction with sentient and non-sentient undead entities. Gore: Graphic depictions found in Eoxian theatrical productions and medical facilities. Scientific Mystery: Systematic investigation of a post-apocalyptic planetary collapse. Corporate Negligence: Ethical failures in mining and tourism conglomerates. Madness and Psychological Strain: Mental fatigue caused by the planet's necrotic resonance. Body Horror: Undead entities and biological corruption resulting from radiation exposure. Post-Apocalyptic Despair: Depictions of abandoned cities and the futility of past civilizations.
