About the adventure

You begin in a world where the dominant empire has only just unlocked the ability to travel through space. You will have the fortunate opportunity to venture into the unknown, beyond which lies vast and dangerous worlds, forgotten civilizations, mysterious species, ancient secrets and impossible phenomena. In this cosmic sci-fantasy sandbox, you will crew a starship and sail through adventures and situations that could only exist in the realm of dreams and imagination. Some journeys will bring wonder and discovery. Others may reveal things that should never have been found. In this campaign, the story grows from the choices of the crew. You want to hunt monsters and take bounties? Explore alien ruins and lost civilizations? Meddle in intergalactic politics? Run dangerous heists, investigate strange mysteries, or become legendary pirates of the unknown? The direction of the campaign follows the ambitions of the players, with open discussion between players and GM shaping the kinds of adventures we pursue together. I will say this though: there are already 3 players in this game, who have chosen for the story to lean a bit towards exploration, to seek to understand the lore and the mysteries of the universe. The game also features a variety of additional systems to support different styles of play, including ship combat and customization, crafting and harvesting, negotiation mechanics, exploration and hexcrawls, permanent injuries, madness and cosmic trauma, downtime activities, character enhancements (such as implants), mass combats, and even kaiju-scale encounters. All of this is modular and can be explored and used more intensively, or even discarded depending on how the players enjoy these systems (many of which are homebrewed). Your ship and the rest of your crew will grow and evolve along with your characters as you carve your own path across the stars. Many situations may involve unconfortable themes and even have a dark horror vibe. Conversation is always the key to it all, from sensitive subjects you prefer to keep away from the game, to some cool idea you have for your character that may twist the rules. I am always open for conversation to make things work better for everyone, don't forget that! If you enjoy open-ended adventures, strange worlds, rich lore, and collaborative storytelling, this campaign is for you.

About me

Hey folks, ready for some adventure? I have always loved fantasy, storytelling and make-believe. So it is only natural that I fell in love with RPGs 20 years ago, and I've never stopped playing ever since. I have been a teacher of many school subjects, from math and physics to chemistry and english, I was part of a theater group for 9 years, I wrote a book and I even graduated as a chemical engineer. A bit all over the place, one might think (myself included), but what can you do when you like so many different things? Around 8 years ago, though, I've found out that DMing is among my favorite things to do. I started to study to become better and within few months I was doing it professionally, and I have run dozens of online campaigns ever since. I welcome everyone at my table, and my goal is always to create a friendly and respectful atmosphere, where everybody feels confortable to have a great time together.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will start at level 1 and they can be created during our session 0. I can also help you with the character creation throughout the week between our sessions 0 and 1 if needed, including backstory. If you join after the first session, I can still help you in a Discord call to set up your character in a time we are both available!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Things you will need to play this campaign: ☑️ A working mic. ☑️ An account on Discord. ☑️ An account on Foundry. ☑️ A stable internet. That's it. In our session zero we will go over character creation and the basic understanding of the system and the VTT if necessary. Don't worry, we'll get better along the way!

What Eccrios brings to the table

As a GM, even though I may have my preferences, I'm all for making the experiences my players want to have - especially in sandbox adventures. For example, I generally prefer a nice mix of roleplay, exploration and a tactical and challenging combat. I also love mixing that with lore, intrigue and different challenges to keep it all fresh, such as investigations and heists. However, it is just I said: if all the players prefer lots of combat for example, I'm down for focusing more on that part of the game. I firmly believe conversation can solve everything (at least in an RPG table). So I will always ask at the end of each session if you are having fun, if you have some suggestion, if something could be improved. Well, sometimes I may forget to ask, but I 100% want you to feel confortable approaching me to say what's on your mind, be it good or bad.

Homebrew rules

I am running DC20 as it is. I have created or borrowed a myriad of subsystems, involving ship combat and ship customization, crafting, negotiation, exploration, permanent injuries, character enhancements, mass combat, combat with huge creatures. This are all systems that we can test and use, and if the players like, we can keep them. If we agree that it adds too much complexity, we can let them go or I can run simplified versions of these experiences. Again, nothing that changes the base of the game.

How Eccrios creates a safe table

I run session 0, I talk to players about the session at the end, and I always make myself approachable and available for conversations even outside the game time.
