About the adventure

"We are predators playing at being politicians, and monsters playing at being martyrs. Tonight, you choose your own poison." Welcome to Jersey City, 1996. The dial-up screams, the air smells of wet asphalt and copper, and the Beast is restless. Welcome to the World of Darkness. Who is this game for? This chronicle is designed for beginners to learn Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition. If you want to step into the shadows but feel intimidated by the d10 system or decades of dense lore, you've found the right table. We won't drop a massive rulebook on your lap on day one. Instead, this campaign is an immersive tutorial. You'll learn the ins and outs of vampire society naturally, and we will slowly introduce mechanics—like Hunger dice and Stains—step-by-step only as the story demands. Once you know how to use your fangs, the training wheels come off. There is no predetermined script or "golden path." Jersey City is a living powder keg of competing agendas across the Camarilla, Anarchs, and clandestine cults. I have built the power players, their secrets, and their fatal flaws. How you interact with them—who you betray, ally with, or save—is entirely up to you. Every choice has logical, brutal consequences. Bring your ambition. Bring your paranoia. Let's learn to be monsters together.

About me

I am a Special Needs Educator, Audio Engineer and lifelong TTRPG enthusiast with over 10 years of experience behind the screen. When I’m not running games, I operate a boutique mobile recording studio specializing in alternative and extreme music. I bring that same "high-fidelity" intensity to my tables! As an educator, I pride myself on creating a positive, inclusive, and adaptable environment. Whether you are a veteran player or brand new to the hobby, I specialize in tailoring the experience to the players at the table. Expect total narrative freedom, and a supportive atmosphere. (And yes, I’m a huge animal lover :P)

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation happens entirely at/before our collaborative Session 0, so there is no need to stress over rulebooks beforehand. To make things accessible, I have designed a custom, easy-to-follow "Quick-Build" guide tailored specifically to our 1996 Jersey City setting. I will personally walk you step-by-step through selecting your Clan, slotting in simple stat arrays for your Neonate or Fledgling, and choosing your "Nightmare Scenario"—a unique narrative hook that ties your character directly into the city's impending chaos. You don't need to bring anything but a concept; we will craft your monster together using the foundational rules of the V5 Corebook and Player's Guide.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A free Discord account and a working microphone are required (cameras are highly encouraged for immersion!). We will be using Foundry VTT for our character sheets, which you can access straight from your browser. The Concept: Brainstorm a loose mortal identity that fits the grit of 1996 Jersey City (e.g., a corrupt beat cop, a grunge club promoter). We'll handle the fangs and Clan mechanics together. The Poison: Review the "Welcome to the Long Night" primer I will send upon booking so you can pick your character's "Nightmare Scenario."

What Dooby brings to the table

Creative Freedom: This table is a zero-judgment zone. I want you to feel fully comfortable taking big narrative risks, pitching wild ideas, and deeply exploring your character's darkest flaws. Collaborative Respect: While your characters might argue, manipulate, or betray each other, the players will not. I actively manage table dynamics to ensure mutual respect, meaning no one gets talked over, and out-of-character friction is left at the door. We are telling a story together. The Tools: We will build a comprehensive Lines & Veils document during Session 0. During play, we use digital X, N, and O cards (via Discord). If a boundary is crossed, we fade to black or rewind—no questions asked. Aftercare: We end intense sessions with a brief cooldown to check in, laugh, and shake off any "Bleed" (emotional bleed-over from the game). Character Voices: I throw my whole heart into NPC voices. Whether I nail them or not, it brings the city to life and keeps you immersed. The Rule of Cool: If you have a cinematic or terrifying idea that elevates the story, we will find a way to make the dice support it. Your Time to Shine: I custom-tailor scenes to your character's specific "Nightmare Scenario." Every player will get their moment in the spotlight to make hard choices and shine.

Homebrew rules

While not technically a homebrew rule, we do alter how the rules are applied. Because this is a beginner-focused chronicle, I do not info-dump the entire V5 Corebook on day one. We start playing "Vampire Lite," using only the absolute basic mechanics (Attribute + Skill, and basic Hunger dice). As the nights progress and the story demands it, we will organically layer in the more complex mechanics—like Blood Resonance, Chronicle Tenets, Stains, and advanced combat maneuvers. You will learn the rules of the night simply by surviving it.

Safety

How Dooby creates a safe table

Vampire is a game of personal horror, which requires absolute trust out-of-character. Here is how we ensure a safe, comfortable table: Session 0 & Lines and Veils: We hold a mandatory Session 0 to establish boundaries. Upon booking, you will receive a link to a shared, digital Lines & Veils document to fill out so I know exactly what topics to avoid or "fade to black" on. Digital X, N, & O Cards: During play, you can type X, N, or O in our Discord chat, or DM them directly to me. If a card is dropped, we immediately pause, rewind, or fade to black—no questions asked. Aftercare: We end every session with a 10-minute "cooldown" debrief. We step out of character to laugh, highlight our favorite moments, and shake off any emotional "bleed" before logging off. Table Culture: Your characters can be absolute monsters to each other, but the players must be respectful. This is a zero-judgment zone where you have total creative freedom, as long as we respect our shared boundaries.
