About the adventure

i'm running a version of death house - from the curse of strahd adventure - that has been heavily edited to be more about the story than the dungeon crawl. the mini-adventure is a notorious party killer as written, and i use community adjustments to it to change this, and many other things. (for those of you familiar: the bulk of my changes come from the amazing MandyMod's "fleshing out curse of strahd" series.) i do this because, one, i'm always eager to teach new players and hardly want to scare them away, and two, i find it more emotionally rewarding! dangerous combat lurks in it still, but there's much more to explore and learn for a curious party. i also love to change how i run things a little bit for every unique character that comes to my table, so hopefully even with its short length, players feel they've gotten a complete story and experienced something totally new. i would recommend my runs of this game for people who have thought about giving strahd a try, but haven't wanted to be *too* terrified. the horror is definitely horrific, but i also encourage levity, as that back & forth creates safe tension.

About me

i go by loom (he/him), and i’m a game dev and character designer by trade! i’ve been running tabletop games for a long time, mostly with friends with a few public, paid/bartered oneshots at events and such; i love the planning, and i especially love seeing players’ creativity with their characters. (new players are beloved by me for this reason!) i have previous professional experience in the trpg industry, and while it has soured me on a lot of the Branding, i’m more dedicated than ever to running games where folks feel welcome.

Character creation

Creating your character

once a player has signed on for the game, we'll work together before it begins to craft their character. all you'll be expected to think about before that is what kind of story you're most interested in telling -- but if you don't know, don't worry about it! you can use content from any official books to make your character, and i'm very open to homebrew as well! if you want to use homebrew, please have some type of sheet/detailed explanation of it so i can more easily implement it. i'm happy to do the bulk of that work and to communicate with you throughout the campaign to ensure things are working as you want them to, all i ask is that folks be flexible & open-minded! min-maxxing won't benefit you here, so make your characters with roleplay in mind. there's one character creation rule i insist on: i DO NOT support use of generative AI/LLM "art" for character art. i am an artist and many of my peers are artists & writers. i can't change what anyone does outside of my table, but while you're here, you must respect human artists. consider using picrew (https://picrew.me/en/) for character art and 2-minute tabletop (https://tools.2minutetabletop.com/token-editor/) for a token! trust me, i'd much rather have inexact art and use theatre of the mind than have something more accurate made by AI.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

please have a discord account & access to a clear microphone -- i use foundry, so there will be a bespoke link for your specific campaign! i'll also send off an invite to my discord server as a private message, so everyone can meet there and get an idea for the vibes.

What loom brings to the table

i offer ambient music & on-the-spot improv to suit the party. for this game, combat is second to horror, and i've heavily adjusted the module as written to make it less likely to result in a TPK -- but there are still some brutal fights, so you'll have to be clever!

Safety

How loom creates a safe table

death house is a horror adventure with plenty of CWs -- the fidelity of this horror will be low, as it isn't my focus, but safety is still my chief concern. we'll have a (free) session 0 for introducing lines & veils, (digital) X carding, etc.
