About the adventure

Traditionally, Curse of Strahd is a dark fantasy/horror setting of Dungeons and Dragons. Beyond that, what it evolves into mainly comes from mentality we set in session 0; I as the DM/GM of the game want to match that energy, whether that ends up staying in the serious themes of the traditional game, or ending up a little bit more silly (as most D&D games usually do). So, let's sell you on the real idea behind the campaign: Barovia: land of the mists! The land is ruled by Count Strahd von Zarovich, a monster even in the eyes of many of his own people. Unravel the mysteries of the land, and claim a hidden destiny that only your heroes can! Will you stand up to a tyrannical ruler, and bring the light of the sun back to this cursed land? Or will you too fall to the darkness that plagues it? I prefer to play settings where we are fiction first, role play encouraged, and combat is challenging, but not overbearing. As long as you want to come to the table in the same fashion, I hope this table could be for you. If you have any questions about anything, don't hesitate to reach out to me about them. See you in the mist.

About me

Hey everyone! My name's Blake, and I have been playing TTRPGs for over 2 decades. I've got experience in d20 systems and powered by the apocalypse settings, with a smattering of world of darkness thrown in. I've been DM'ing across D&D editions since 3.5 was still the dominant game in the space. I've been playing D&D 5e since it's inception (mostly as the DM/GM) and would love to run games for you as well! I love running heavy lore games, deep character role play, and at times I also know that the Rule of Cool needs to take center stage. Not to say that we shy away from combat, but I believe there should always be a chance to avoid a fight and give space to creative problem solving. Nice to meet you, and looking forward to playing!

Character creation

Creating your character

We will make characters on Roll20 during session 0. We will be starting at level 3, and all currently available standard books (this includes subclasses that are not in 2024) are available for use, but we will be playing in 2024 ruleset. As a group, we will decide how we will determine stats and any additional character creation features during session 0 as well.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Have a discord account and a roll20 account. You do not need to own any books on roll20, nor need to pay for any additional features there.

What Blake brings to the table

I bring over 20 years of GM experience, ambient music, and some character voicing. One of my home game players consistently wows me with their plans when they say the phrase "I have a dumb idea" (translation: it's a cool, silly idea!) so I'm very in favor of Rule of Cool! I also like to remind everyone, this is a fantasy world; we are not here to push physics engine exploits, or add lots of extra math into the game (please leave your PunPuns and Peasant Railguns at the door). On that note, for all standards of the game (rules still discussed together in session 0) should be that players are polite to one another (and to me), should work together, and should try to find ways to complement one another (both in gameplay and roleplay).

Homebrew rules

Drinking potion as a bonus action rolls for HP, Action drinking a potion will restore the maximum amount of HP. Open to discussion of other optional rules during session 0.
