About the adventure
Welcome dear Students to Strixhaven! We are delighted that you will be attending our school for the next four years (and perhaps more!) as you go along your magical journey. Our faculty are eager to share their knowledge and experiences to those who ready to learn, from prodigy to struggling. We care not for your talent, merely your persistence to learn no matter the hardship. Be your magic of blood, gift, tome, worldly connection, or even a strange accident, we assure you, we can find a teacher with a similar experience. Don't think we have forgotten those who prefer to get in close with their spellwork! A sword is just as valid a magical instrument as any spellbook. Fret not these next four years about boredom. Of course class learning is part of our curriculum, but we believe its important to have hands on experience. Magic is a powerful tool for the dangers of the world and its good to have an adventure or two to really show your work! Not to mention our wealth of extracurricular and competitions. Why, we've even had a tournament or two! Make sure to report to the front office when you arrive and you will be directed to orientation. We hope to see you soon, the Deans of Strixhaven ~ ~ ~ Strixhaven is a magical college that your characters will be attending. The game will take place over four years in game and take your characters from level 1 to level 20. Your character does not have to be a spellcaster to attend the college, so long as they have something "magical." A totem barbarian, an echo knight fighter, an astral monk, arcane trickster rogues, there are numerous subclasses the provide something magic like for a martial class. There is also backgrounds within the book that gives your characters magic. So long as they can do something with magic like, they are good to attend. (Or they can have zero magic abilities and are just real good at sleight of hand, this is a character option.) Intermixed with adventures, your characters will be experiencing college life. Extracurriculars, work, relationships, study groups, frat parties, there will be a plenty of things to explore for their day to day lives. As such, it is good to plan for a lot of roleplay. This isn't just about conquering a dungeon, this is your character figuring out the trajectory of their life. Character arcs and exploration will be very important for having fun in this game.

About me
Dungeon and Dragons and TTRPGs have been a staple of my life since I was in the single digits. I've had experience in all sorts of systems, from good old DnD to Shadow Run to Dread. If its a game system, chances are I've played it at least once, but of course I have the systems I'm most familiar with. Fantasy, sci fi, something more realistic, and even the occasional horror, I hope to run a variety of games for people. I love creativity and I love the great stories that come out of several people's ideas mixing together. Rules and modules are guidelines, but what matters is everyone is having fun. While I prefer games that are more roleplay heavy, combats and puzzles are certainly fun as well.

Creating your character
Character creation will happen during session zero and over Discord outside of game time for people who join later. Everyone will start at level one and we will be rolling with stats. Any and all official books will be allowed, and any third party content or homebrew will be allowed if they pass my review. We will be using roll20 since that is where you have access to my books. DNDbeyond is allowed, just know I will not have a campaign there so you will need the Beyond20 extension. Since this game will be fairly roleplay heavy, you should have some solid ideas to your character's backstory or their potential character arc.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a Discord and roll20 account. You should have a mic, though no webcam necessary. If you want to see DNDBeyond, have the Beyond20 extension.
What Sabre G brings to the table
I'm a DM who focuses more on roleplay. I like letting players explore their characters in different ways and the more backstory you give me, the more I try to incorporate it. My improv skills are also pretty good. Rules as Written is a guideline to help give some rails, but Rule of Cool will win out nine times out of ten. I want everyone to feel invested in their character and the world they're in. What matters most is people are having fun. I'm not a super crunchy DM when it comes to combat, but I like to keep them interesting and I often reward creativity. If you can find a way to get fifty gunpowder barrels in the boss's bedroom and the dice favor you, then that can happen. For the technical side, I have maps and ambient music. Sorry to say, but I've only got a few voices, but I do my best.
Homebrew rules
I do have a few homebrew rules. I use drinking a potion is a bonus action, allow the use of a bonus action in the action space, a few class specific that I keep listed on my Discord. I have an option for character death to still survive called triage. Should your character fail their death saves, instead of death, you can choose to take a semi-permanent disadvantage that takes at least a sidequest to fix. It will not be your character's main mechanical thing, we aren't taking a ranger's eyes. There is also a rule for spellcasters where if they cast three leveled spells in a row to zero effect (no damage, no healing, no status effect), they gain back a spell slot of the average level. All rules are optional for players to use.
