About the adventure

Whether it comes as a surprise or you have always known, you are the child of a super-villain. Now a message which has come to you in recurring dreams leads you to an abandoned hideout to gather with others like you. Together, you must secure your place in the world -- either as heroes, or perhaps villains in your own right -- while fending off your parents' efforts to bring you back under their wings.

About me

Hi, I'm Leo! I've been doing games for over thirty years, and was GM for the vast majority of that time on account of there almost never being anyone else willing to run things. Over the decades, I've become accustomed to many different playstyles so I like to think that I'm pretty versatile. The most important thing, though, is that everyone is having fun and I do my best to ensure that the game is enjoyable for all involved. I spend entirely too much time gathering GM resources, so I'm bringing materials to the table like VTT licenses, animated maps, fitting music, and occasionally art if I can find the time to make it. I don't homebrew a lot, myself, but I'll always take requests under consideration. To me, the players are the main characters and I'm always looking for opportunities to help them shine. Nothing in the setting or NPC list should take up more attention as far as I'm concerned. Message me if you're interested in a game!

Character creation

Creating your character

We will have a Session 0 before play and you won't need anything more than a rough concept. From there, you will create Rank 2 characters on Demiplane using any of the official printed material (which you may access using my materials). If you are hoping for an Unexpected Power, please talk to me first. Similarly, while I will not explicitly veto Narrative Powers, those must absolutely be cleared with me and it's possible I may only allow its use at higher ranks. You are explicitly encouraged to be descended or otherwise related somehow to a known super-villain in the Marvel Universe, though you may create your own villain if you wish. Be prepared to answer a lot of questions from me in that case, though!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Characters will be created in Demiplane and linked to Roll20 which will be our VTT. Discord will be used for the voice part of live games and will also be the place for play-by-post in-character channels between sessions (if you so choose). You will need accounts for Discord, Demiplane, and Roll20 but you should technically only need to to run a web browser for everything (though it's easier if you install the Discord client). The accounts are free. A decent headset is highly recommended so as to improve the audio quality of the sessions.

What Leo brings to the table

Once you join the game groups in Discord and Roll20 respectively, you will have access to all the necessary resources in each for character creation, play, and advancement. I will have provide maps and tokens for visual aid and music for audio.

Homebrew rules

We will use the "Getting Schooled" variant rule for character advancement to reflect regular, gradual improvements. Additionally, no character may benefit from more than 2 powers which grant them Edges on the same action. You may accumulate additional Edges situationally, but they may not be granted by your own powers. Finally, when constructing an Iconic Item, you may not take more than 2 Restrictions, you may not give it powers with a Rank requirement more than 1 higher than your current Rank, and you may only give it powers from the Basic set and from no more additional sets than your Rank.

Safety

How Leo creates a safe table

We will begin with a Session 0 so that we can have introductions, go over our expectations, devise our list of Lines & Veils, build characters if necessary, and hopefully kick-start the role-playing so that things can roll into RP over the Discord server. A link to the RPG Consent Checklist for this game group will be sent out prior to Session 0 so that we can have those taken under consideration. During live play sessions, there will be at least one break around the middle of the session for at least 10 minutes. And at all times, I keep an Open Door policy and I will have private channels for each individual player where they can communicate with me.
