About the adventure

Mystery of the Ishbal Estate is a short but fun mystery plot where the players need to solve the odd goings on within the multi roomed estate. Best with a part of 2-4 players, you'll be asked to investigate the beleaguered family home by the liaison Purpa De Fascet, a noble gnome woman who's friends with the family. There'll be puzzles, mystery solving and some supernatural chills for those brave enough to enter. This is a homebrew mini-module I created and would like to use as a fun 'test run' for new players to see if we're compatible. This is a low-stakes starting adventure, with mostly roleplaying and investigation, with a small chance of combat depending on how the investigation goes.

About me

My name's Ben, and I've been a DM for a four person group for 2 years, as well as being a DM for a Westmarch Server for about 3 years before that. I've been playing RPGs overall for about 8 years, give or take a few months.

Character creation

Creating your character

The starting level for this mini module will be level 3, using Point Buy. I'd appreciate if you have a character sheet ready and available for me to see on DnDBeyond or via a link to a PDF. If needed, I will have some pregenerated characters for you to choose from. Before the session starts, I'll look over your character sheets to check how they look, then we can get started. This is a session where we get to know each other and see if we gel between DM and player after all.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please have an account available on Discord and DnDBeyond; I will be adding you all to a group Chat so we can all communicate, and if the first session is successful I will add those willing to continue with me for other sessions to a Discord Server. You will need a Mic to communicate as well, webcam not necessary.

What PierceTheSky BM brings to the table

I use ambient music and do my best to add interesting and unique NPC voices. I'll stick to Rules as Written as much as possible, but I'm not averse to using the Rule of Cool if something is just too good to pass up; More like 'Rules as Guidelines'. My Combat, if and when it happens, would be fair but challenging, and players will always have a chance to run if necessary. I much rather players experiment with outlandish ideas that may not work than play it super safe.

Homebrew rules

Drinking a potion is a bonus action. We'll be using 'Perkins' Crits- On a crit, one die roll is max damage. Death Saves will include a flashback for the downed player per roll to keep them in the flow of combat.

Safety

How PierceTheSky BM creates a safe table

We'll be doing X, N & Os both digitally and verbally; If something needs attention, simply say 'messages' or 'pause' and we can address it at once. If we continue to a more concrete set of sessions, I will be sending each player an 'RPG Consent Checklist' to fill out so I can see what topics each player is comfortable and not comfortable with.
