About the adventure

The Lost Mine of Phandelver from the Dungeons & Dragons Starter is the perfect introduction to the world’s greatest roleplaying game. Journey to the Forgotten Realms to the town of Phandelver and rediscover the ancient mine lost thousands of years ago This game is primarily for players that are new to the setting, and is a simple (but fun!) sword and sorcery yarn about adventurers seeking their fortune in a frontier town on the fringes of civilisation. --- I like to tailor my games and work with my groups during the first session to establish the kind of game they want to play; so what might be quite a violent adventure for one group might end up as a light-hearted romp that resolves primarily through roleplay and puzzle-solving. I try my best to adapt classic 5th edition adventures to suit all playstyles. I use Fantasy Grounds to run this game, and Discord for voice-comms.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will begin at 1st level, and character creation will happen during the first half of the first session. Feel free to come up with a concept before-hand as this will potentially speed things along. Characters are built using 27 point buy for stat allocation, and players may use the variant rules from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything that allows for Customizing Your Origin (Ch. 1: Character Options).

What to expect

Preparing for the session

• I'd expect players to ensure they have a copy of Fantasy Grounds Unity that is up to date, a copy of Discord for your PC or mac, and a headset and microphone that are correctly set up for use with discord. Download FGU here: http://affiliates.fantasygrounds.com/316255/15958 • You can also optionally download the Syrinscape Online Player which will allow you to connect to my Syrinscape account and hear background music and ambience for your adventure Download the Syrinscape Online Player here: https://syrinscape.com/download/ Connect to my Syrinscape account here: https://syrinscape.com/online/cp/follow-invite/194940-23f8a8c2-294b-45a2-8cb6-b756e73f1363/

What Fingers brings to the table

I have all the publications from WotC at the ready, and a roll20 subscription. I will also provide pre-made characters for people just wishing to jump right into the action, or who are uncertain about character creation.

Homebrew rules

A great many. Fortunately, I keep a fairly regularly updated and well-organized list of all the various rulings and homebrew mechanics here: https://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/nxoGnr_dqjED

Safety

How Fingers creates a safe table

This game contains themes of violence, and some foul language. I use a combination of two safety tools/techniques to ensure players are comfortable at the table: - Before the game begins I like to start things off with session 0 to establish goals, hopes, and dreams, as well as proper etiquette player's pronouns, etc - This also doubles as a good time as well as hard and soft limits for roleplaying and what themes players would like to explore, and which they would rather avoid. These are also sometimes referred to as Lines (hard limits, subjects that should remain untouched) and Veils (soft limits, things that are alluded to, or that happen behind a curtain, a fade to black, etc) - I use an addon within fantasy grounds that makes it easy (and anonymous) for players to signpost when I may be crossing into territory they would like to avoid, or that they would prefer to skip past. It adds two buttons above the chatbox in the FGU client that allows people to bring up a yellow or red warning to let me know when the RP is moving in an uncomfortable direction. There are no judgements, and I brook no argument from my players over what people consider uncomfortable; we simply accept it, and move swiftly onward.
