About the adventure

The year is 1492 DR, and the City of Splendors awaits you. Sprawling across the Sword Coast, Waterdeep is the beating heart of trade, intrigue, and ambition in all Faerûn. Its streets are alive with bustling markets, flamboyant nobles, watchful guilds, and whispers of secrets best left unspoken. Merchants call out from every corner, horse-drawn carriages thunder over cobblestones, and the salt air of Deepwater Harbor mixes with the scent of roasted meats, burning lantern oil, and a thousand perfumes. Above it all looms Mount Waterdeep, crowned with the great fortress of Blackstaff Tower and the watchful spires of Castle Waterdeep. This is a city of wealth and wonder—but also of shadows, where thieves, spies, and hidden powers vie for control beneath a thin veneer of civility. Here, a single rumor can spark a riot, a stolen coin can alter the fate of guilds, and a whispered deal in a tavern can topple lords. Adventure thrives in the cracks between power and chaos, and fate has brought you into the heart of it.

About me

Hi there! Names Ivan, and I have been a GM for 4 years of experience. I am a military veteran and I host Dungeons and Dragons campaigns for many players all across the world during my time in service with soldiers who also enjoy Dungeons and Dragons and want to make time to play. Quick warning that my DMing is descriptive as well other profanity you will hear and experience. If this is isn't your cup of tea, I won't blame you for finding another DM to host. I know not everyone will be please, but I will host to give the best experience I can. I been using the FoundryVTT server to host multiple sessions, who I team up with TheForgeVTT to have players to enter the server and enjoy the adventures. For new players, you need to sign up TheForgeVTT in order the server invite will work. Don't worry it is free to sign up to play. I have enjoy creating homebrew on campaigns, items, backstory etc. to bring the players to enjoy of their characters being involved and mentioned during sessions. I also like to homebrew original campaigns. My most successful Homebrew Campaign I run is Tyranny of Dragons. I alter the chapters, locations, enemies and plots, but still retain the original plot of the story and have players enjoying the alternate story line. I also do original campaigns, leaving the homebrews off the shelves for players who wants to keep it original. I do Discord to make text and/or call for the group when we do Session zero before we begin the campaign. Content Warnings and Safety for players to be comfortable to play. Just let me know and I will keep it in note to keep this a safe environment. I will do my best to answer questions for new players or vet players if anything involves the session. So... ready to go on an adventure?

Character creation

Creating your character

Character design will be shown on the Player Handbook from DND Beyond that will provide to you. You start at level 1, and the stats are rolled to place the stats of your choice. You can re-roll up to two time, and choose the row that you believe will fit the best. We will use The Players Handbook, Waterdeep: Dragon Heist and Sourcebooks (Xanther's Guide to Everything). We will not use Homebrews, other adventure books to add.

The current party

🎭 What to Expect Political intrigue Heists & espionage Faction rivalries Tavern ownership & reputation growth Cinematic combat Character-driven storytelling Meaningful consequences This is not a railroad campaign. Waterdeep reacts to you. ⚖ Table Expectations Be respectful to all players Be ready at session start Communicate absences early Stay engaged and present 📌 Participation Policy – 3 Strike Rule To keep the table fair and active: Strike 1: No-show without notice Strike 2: Repeated absence or inactivity Strike 3: Removal from the campaign If a player attends only one session and does not return or communicate, their seat may be opened for another player. Seats are limited, and I want to ensure committed players — whether new to D&D or veterans — have the opportunity to experience the full campaign. Communication prevents strikes. Life happens — just let me know.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

TheForge Account (Free Membership as a Player) to receive invitation to FoundryVTT server. Discord for joining the Chat/Video Call. Have a good mic and internet connection to play. Highly Recommend for PC to go into FoundryVTT, tablets, phones will not be able to handle the process. (If unable to have a PC, then I will use the Theater of Mind to help you see the picture.)

Safety

How Ivan creates a safe table

I will ask if anyone needs a break after a 45 Min period. Let them ask any questions before we begin the session if there is a need for me to notify and I will do my best to answer the questions. I will do an Aftercare when the session ends to get a review and I'll see what I can do to improve as a GM.
