About the adventure

The last of the elven kings has died without a heir. The lords of the land are already planning and scheming, while the common folk keep on reporting monster sightings more and more frequently. Could it be that the protection of the elves was real? Could it be that without an elven king sitting on the throne, evil is returning? The party will play the role of a group of emissaries sent to the Dracary Islands, to deliver the news of the king's death to lord Nightingale. The Dracary Islands are the westernmost lands, known for its isolation from the continent and its devotion to the old gods. It is a low, gritty fantasy setting, but we are playing 2024 5e in the end. We're using some homebrew rules to make weapon and gear choice matter, but it's not a heavily homewbrewed setting. I'm opened to introducing changes and other rules if they help the players get into the mood and encourage storytelling.

Character creation

Creating your character

We are using 2024 5e rules. Anything within the 2024 PHB is game, though you would need to check with me to properly fix it to the setting. As for other content: - Additional 2024 content may be allowed (spells, backgrounds and subclasses), just double check with me. - Legacy 2014 content is on a case to case basis, so if you have something in mind, let me know. The setting is low, gritty fantasy. When it comes to your backgrounds and backstory, think of Game of Thrones meet The Witcher, or Kingdom Come: Deliverance meets Supernatural. We use Roll20, and once you're in, you can create your character there straight away. If there's something missing let me know and I'll add it to your sheet. There will be a free session 0 where we go through the setting, the home rules and everyone's characters. We'll roll for stats, and those we'll be rolled in the session 0.

The current party

The first session will be a free Session 0, to create your characters together and set the expectations right.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I run my games online. You need a webcam, a mic and some headphones to avoid echo and mic feedback. I use Roll20 for the character sheets, the battle maps and the camera, that you need to be signed up; and Discord for the voice calls, general info and communications, to avoid servers failures and lag. If you have never played D&D I will guide you through the process, but it helps if you can read the rules before hand. You do not need to create the characters beforehand, but it will help the process to have an idea of what type of character you want to play. If you need, I can provide a pre-made character to help you out, just let me know in advance! :D Bring water, something to inspire you—candles do always do the trick for me, and yourself!

What Pepe brings to the table

We'll play online only. I use Roll20 for maps and video and Discord for voice. In Roll20 I share the D&D 2014 Player's Handbook, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Tasha's Cauldron of Everyting and D&D 2024 Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide and Monster Manual. I also have a few Homebrew adventures. I lean on the roleplay and let the game flow. I usually embrace the Rule of Cool, and let my players get away with things if it fits the tension of the scene. I do not do voices, but don't mind those who do.

Homebrew rules

There are 3 main homebrews: - Inventory. A reduced inventory, where you must consider what you are holding on your hands. No weapon juggling. Martials can wear/carry more weapons. - Arms and Armor. Some weapons work a bit differently, with different masteries for different weapons. No firearms. Bows are Finesse (can be used with Strength) and Longswords are Finesse when used in 2 Hands. Armors are renamed and they grant extra benefits for martials. That also plays into some Origin Feats. - Different metals react differently to magic. That will come into play as the campaign progresses.

Safety

How Pepe creates a safe table

In Session 0 we all draw red lines, and set expectations, and the signals when we are getting into non acceptable territory. We usually take a break midsession, in which I check on everyone and give them time to decompress. The After each session, we go through how it went and how they felt, giving feedback and granting inspiration to those characters and players that did particularly well.
