About the adventure

War! An army conquers your hometown and sends you fleeing for your life. Refugees turn into soldiers, soldiers turn into leaders, and leaders turn into heroes. Take back your homeland, build a militia, and bring the fight to the Legion! "Ironfang Invasion" is a published series of adventures for Pathfinder 1st Edition, adapted here for 2nd Edition. Classic fantasy tropes are in full force here, in a deliberate hearkening back to the origins of roleplaying games. This is a story about war, with all of its horror and slow, creeping dread. Yet there are also moments of hope, heroism, and true camaraderie. Let's craft a story about heroes beating up bad guys. Let's also craft a story about a community under stress and learning to work together to survive.

About me

"He’s like Mrs. Dalloway, but with dice." - my favorite review ever Well met, fellow human! Let's sit down and come up with a story, something that we'll be remembering fondly for years afterwards. Let's make up stupid voices and get all emotional over a fake donkey, let's turn up the battle music and feel tension as the enemy moves across the field. Let's create some badass moments. As you may have gathered, I'm a big fan of the collaborative nature of tabletop roleplaying. I believe the game runs best when I don't know what's going to happen next, you don't know what's going to happen next, and we're all just frantic with excitement about the next roll of the dice. We play to find out what happens.

Character creation

Creating your character

The PCs of Ironfang Invasion start out at level 1. A session 0 will be slotted out for players to create their characters together, but if players wish to get a headstart on creating them separately, they are more than welcome.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please ensure you have a working microphone, stable Internet connection, and Discord account. You can download the Pathbuilder app and create your character ahead of time, but that is not necessary. The actual game will be run using the Foundry virtual tabletop, no experience with it is required.

What Brayden brings to the table

I will bring the Foundry virtual tabletop, battle maps for use ingame, and safety tools to help all players feel comfortable at the table.

How Brayden creates a safe table

While we won't be following the published adventure word for exact word, depending on player interests, we'll be following its general scheme in terms of pacing. There are moments of tense, cinematic set-pieces interspersed throughout a more sandbox setting focused on survival and tactical planning. I won't be asking you to handle the minutiae of organizing a military group, as we're going to be more focused on the high-level story ramifications of your decisions. Do we attempt a supply run while Legion scouts are in the area? Can we risk rescuing hostages from an enemy camp? Is this third party a group we can ally with or expect betrayal from? I admit freely to having a greater interest in roleplaying than any other aspect of the game. Expect to meet fleshed-out NPCs, mysteries that hearken back to personal backstories, and situations meant to put the player characters into the spotlight. Combat will be frequent throughout the campaign, but rather than dozens of individual encounters, expect instead to have one or two big fights in a session.
