About the adventure

You are an agent of the Grey Hawks, a newly founded faction dedicated to seeking out Jotnar dwelling in Trevascan lands. Your new team has been ordered to march to the village of Lurnstead and look into sightings of Jotnar within the Fanged Forest. Unbeknownst to the mortals of the realm, a dark scar grows upon this world. When this peril grips the land, refugees will look to you for guidance. Bearing the seal of the crown, it falls on you to govern how to keep your people safe. - - - The Grey Hawks of Trevasc is a short campaign starting at level 5 and ending at level 6. It has been heavily inspired by the games within the Banner Saga trilogy and focuses on your group's decisions of how best to navigate through dangerous times. Although you, dear reader, may know of the impending calamity, your characters will be initially concentrating on their mission to seek out and capture Jotnar. A lot of the fun found in this adventure will be found in the small and large interactions with NPCs within the refugee caravan. There will be bouts of combat in multiple stages to choose between being pragmatic and keeping yourself safe or risking your lives to ensure you minimize civilian and allied casualties. Treachery or dissent may form within the caravan if fear and hatred are allowed to fester. Who should be trusted to speak in your stead when you are not present? What should be done with those that steal supplies or mock you openly? I will work closely with you during character creation to understand your character concepts and identities to better tailor the opportunities or encounters you'll run into. About me

I am a GM who values a strong narrative and enjoys collaborative storytelling. I want to create an environment where your characters experience growth and have opportunities to display their ideals and flaws. Role-play is important to me, so I am very passionate about filling the world you inhabit with realistic NPCs and meaningful dialogue. At my table, I generally run neutral/good aligned campaigns with a grounded theme. I don't particularly enjoy creating meme-y content or joke characters, and request the same from my players. I don't have tolerance for harassment, hate, or bigotry. I am a part of the LGBTQ+ community myself and prefer to leave politics and religion out of our games. Character creation

Creating your character

We'll meet once or twice before the game launches and have our own writing sessions together to understand the character concept and what your expectations are. You'll begin at level 5 with a free feat. There will be a few restrictions on races (such as elves) due to the lore of this setting. If an option is found within an official WoTC book, it's allowed. The only exception I'd make is for a tweaked Twilight Cleric to reduce its channel divinity potency. I'll be able to share my resources with you on DnD Beyond and we'll export the character sheets from there into Foundry VTT.

What Lilac brings to the table

I enjoy employing different voices for the many NPCs encountered within the adventure. Music will be used for ambience and combat, but you'll be able to set your personal volume in FoundryVTT. I prefer using the Rule of Cool when the fiction affords it, and reflavoring existing mechanics or spells to fit your character theme is recommended. Combat can range from a short bout to a deadly encounter, it should be clear within the context of the situation, rather than a perfect challenge each and every time.

Homebrew rules

There are a few here and there, which are mostly for quality of life or immersion. - Drinking a potion from your belt is a bonus action. Drinking a potion with a full action grants you the maximum amount of healing instead of rolling. - Death saving throws are done blindly, so that none of the players know how close their comrade is to death until it is too late. - Each time you are reduced to 0 hit points, you must succeed a DC15 CON save or gain a stack of Exhaustion. This is to reduce the "yo-yo" effect of people going up and down and it being comical rather than dire. - Exhaustion stacks up to 5, and their effects are changed to just be a flat -1 penalty to all rolls. When you finish a long rest, you remove stacks of exhaustion equal to 1 or your CON modifier. - Upon reaching 5 stacks of exhaustion, you enter into a comatose state and roll death saving throws to become stable. There are more that I cannot remember, but class or race features that are "weak" are improved to better fit the quality of other options. We'll go over them when we talk about your character.

How Lilac creates a safe table

Most things will be discussed upon our first meeting, such as potential triggers or hard/soft lines we have. If a situation is becoming too stressful, you are welcome to message me discreetly and step away or we may pause for a moment. After each session, I believe it's paramount that we ensure there is no "player bleed" within the group, separating the actions or words within the game and those of the players. Tensions within the game between characters is fine, especially if the players are collaborating to display a clash of beliefs or a negative trait that needs to be worked on. PvP is not a draw of this campaign and will most likely be denied, unless like I said, it is a collaboration between players for meaningful roleplay.
