About the adventure

Aisling of Blood and Glamour is a chronicle set in Dublin, themed around the struggle of Changeling existence, and blending epic adventure with the mundanity of daily life. Now more than ever, the court of King Bran ap Gwydion requires the help of those willing to risk their lives; many have perished at the hands of both Nightmares and Banality, and kithain face a tough time as their numbers dwindle and winter approaches. However, it ain't that simple to be a changeling adventurer nowadays. Yes, you might have to go on that dragon hunt tonight, but consider that you haven't paid rent in three months and you're going to be kicked out. Wouldn't it be wonderful to just stay in the Dreaming forever? Oh, but what about the mortals you care so much about? Remember that this, in the end, is the World of Darkness. This chronicle is a darker and weirder counterpart to my other Changeling game, the Hawthorn Chronicles. All characters must be adults in mortal terms. Faerie magic and hope are still there, but they're much scarcer than one would like. The focus will be on the player characters, their struggles to figure out their lives as Kithain, and their emotional journeys as they go on perilous quests and the troubles of "real-life" mundanity. There will be action, there will be drama, there will be intrigue, and there will be blood! And of course, expect no lack of changeling weirdness, mystery, and madness. The history and culture of Ireland will be very, very present, particularly its ancient mythology and romantic literature. The setting is the World of Darkness, and I like to emphasize this. Things out there are mostly uncaring, heartless, and cold. You're the ones whose mission is to care, to open your hearts, and to bring the warmth and wonder of life to those around you, but sometimes the world gets in the way, and things end on a much sadder note than we would like. It's also worth pointing out that the story is the core of the game, and we give more importance to creating interesting drama rather than following the rules to the letter.

About me

Greetings! I’m Tonio, and storytelling is my greatest passion. I specialize in narrative games, with tons of drama, feeling, and cinematic narration. I worked at ND Hobbies as a writer (and sometimes editor) for D&D and OSR Content -if you look for me in there, things will be published with my legal name, Mauricio R. C. I’ve been running RPGs for almost half my life. I’ve also participated in theater, taken voice acting courses with renowned professionals in Latin America, and won awards in both short story and poetry competitions. Spanish is my native language, but I have got a Cambridge Certificate for advanced English skills. I’ve also designed my own roleplaying games (See my Itchio page https://spooksong-studio.itch.io) I run the Doctor Who RPG, D&D 5E, some OSR Games, Vampire 20th, Werewolf 20th, Mage 20th and 2e, Changeling 20th, Wraith 20th, Hunter 1e, Fate, some indie games, and more. Ask me about your favorite system! I'm also a defender of Changeling: The Dreaming. Along with CtD, my other favorite game is Ars Magica.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will have a (free) session zero dedicated to making characters, so that all of them are connected and have both goals and a place to be. We will follow the rules of the 20th Anniversary Corebook, but I will also allow options from the Player's Handbook. Content from Homebrew supplements can be used with my approval, if only to keep the game balanced. Apart from the more mechanical aspect of character creation, I will also ask you to use some guidelines to give your character a basic amount of personal backstory and drama, so that I can integrate them and their history into the chronicle.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I usually run World of Darkness games by using only Discord, but if the majority of the group wants to use Foundry VTT, it can be incorporated to the game. You do not need a Foundry account to join the sessions in case we do implement it. I also utilize WatchTogether for music, but that site doesn't require an account either.

What Tonio The Storyteller brings to the table

My philosophy is that players arrive with a series of expectations that shape how the game should be, and I try to always adjust the experience to what they want; feel free to tell me about what aspect of your character you'd like to explore and the type of conflicts and challenge you'd like to face. The table is an organical environment where everyone's suggestions and ideas can turn the story into something truly magical. My style is histrionic; I use a lot of character voices and act them out according to the drama (I have some training as a voice actor from a professional). I like to help the players engage with and imagine the world through the use of descriptive language, along with ambient music. I also assign music themes to certain characters or moments to enhance the emotional implications of the scene. I am a Story first game-master, and I would rather have a scene flow properly and things make sense inside the narrative, than follow the rules at 100% accuracy. However, I do recognize the importance and utility of the rules, and also, this particular system works wonders for the aims of the game. Usually, the focus on my games is drama, but this one will also have a fair degree of action.
