About the adventure
Ævum Malum is a modern urban dark fantasy setting where the familiar world conceals a deeper, unsettling reality. Beneath everyday life lie secret societies, occult traditions, and hidden forces that shape events from the shadows. Magic exists, but it is subtle, dangerous, and rarely understood in full. This campaign is about discovering that hidden world piece by piece—following clues, uncovering forbidden knowledge, and realizing that some truths were buried for good reason. Players take on mortal characters drawn into supernatural investigations, often without knowing the scale or nature of what they are facing. The tone blends urban fantasy with Call of Cthulhu–style investigative play: gathering evidence, interpreting strange phenomena, and confronting realities that challenge assumptions about the world and humanity’s place in it. Answers are never complete, certainty is rare, and every revelation carries personal and moral consequences. The campaign uses the In Nomine game system, adapted to support mortal-focused play and gradual escalation. New players will learn the rules organically through investigation and character-driven scenes, while veterans of In Nomine, World of Darkness, or investigative horror games will recognize familiar themes explored in a new context. This game is for players who enjoy slow-burn mystery, occult conspiracies, and stories where curiosity, insight, and survival are often in direct conflict.

About me
With over 30 years of experience in tabletop roleplaying games, I bring a deep love of classic systems and immersive storytelling to every table I run. My roots are firmly planted in old-school gaming—especially AD&D—but I also actively run and enjoy modern systems, including D&D 5e (2024). I have a strong preference for rich, lore-driven settings. When using established fantasy systems, I most often run games in Dragonlance or within my own original DireLands campaign world, both of which emphasize character-driven narratives, meaningful choices, and long-term consequences. In addition to fantasy, I specialize in darker, more atmospheric campaigns. I run a fully homebrewed cosmic horror setting using the In Nomine system, inspired by World of Darkness themes and infused with elements of Clive Barker and classic monsters. These games focus on moral tension, surreal horror, and unsettling mysteries. Whether guiding epic heroes or exploring the shadows of the unknown, my goal as a Game Master is to create memorable stories, collaborative worlds, and engaging experiences for every player at the table.

Creating your character
Character creation for this campaign is handled through a free, one-on-one Session Zero for each player. This session will take place before the campaign begins and will last up to two hours. During this time, we will collaboratively build your character while introducing the core mechanics of the In Nomine TTRPG system, ensuring you understand both how your character works and how the game is played. All character creation will be guided and supported by the GM using Discord (voice) and the Roll20 virtual tabletop. You do not need to own or read any rulebooks in advance—all necessary materials will be provided. Whether you are completely new to In Nomine or returning after time away, the process is designed to be accessible, clear, and tailored to your experience level. Characters will begin play as mortal protagonists, grounded in the everyday world of Ævum Malum, with backgrounds shaped by personal history, beliefs, and connections rather than supernatural power. Attributes, skills, and other mechanics will be selected during Session Zero with GM guidance to ensure characters fit both the tone of the campaign and the investigative focus of the game. Any optional rules, restrictions, or setting-specific adjustments will be explained during character creation. No outside books or homebrew options should be used unless discussed and approved during Session Zero.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
To join the Ævum Malum campaign, players should complete a few simple steps to ensure they are ready for the live-streamed sessions. This campaign will be played via Discord for audio and video, and on Roll20 for virtual tabletop (VTT) gameplay. Because this is a live-streamed actual play on the Eviliv3 Play YouTube channel, a functioning camera and microphone are required for all participants. Join Discord: You must have a Discord account and join the Eviliv3 Play Discord server here (https://discord.gg/STm75nYU6D). This will be the primary hub for communication, scheduling, announcements, and links to Roll20 sessions. Set up Roll20: You will need a free Roll20 account. The game will use a custom In Nomine character sheet preloaded with all relevant mechanics. The Roll20 game link will be provided individually once your character is created and your participation is confirmed. No additional downloads or software beyond a browser and a stable internet connection are required. Hardware Requirements: Because sessions are streamed live, you will need: A camera to share video during play A microphone for clear voice communication Stable internet capable of supporting live video and VTT interactions Optional Preparation: While all rules, character sheets, and materials are provided during Session Zero, players are welcome to familiarize themselves with the In Nomine system or read the campaign introduction for Ævum Malum. This is entirely optional; nothing is required prior to your Session Zero. By completing these steps, you will be fully prepared to participate in the game, interact with other players, and engage with the campaign as it unfolds. All technical setup and troubleshooting will be supported during Session Zero to ensure a smooth experience for both new and returning players.
What AdamPC brings to the table
In this Ævum Malum campaign, you can expect to be fully immersed in a dark urban fantasy world where mystery, investigation, survival, and the slow discovery of hidden powers are at the forefront. As your GM, I bring the world to life through roleplay, character voices, and atmospheric music, encouraging reciprocal roleplay between players to deepen the story and connections between characters. You will never just witness the world—you will interact with it, shape it, and uncover its secrets. The game is powered by the In Nomine TTRPG system, with all mechanics clearly explained during Session Zero and as needed throughout play. While the rules provide structure and guidance, I lean into the Rule of Cool: players are encouraged to be imaginative, inventive, and proactive in their approaches. Extraordinary ideas and creative problem-solving are rewarded, as long as they fit the narrative and maintain balance. Tactical combat exists but is rare and situation-driven; the focus is on investigation, intrigue, and character-driven decision-making. Play will primarily use theater of the mind, supported by light visual aids to inspire scenes and encounters, rather than a heavily tactical or grid-based approach. You can expect engaging, cinematic scenes, a persistent sense of tension, and a world that reacts to your choices. My style emphasizes immersion, collaboration, and exploration, and I work with players to create stories that feel meaningful, suspenseful, and memorable while giving room for personal expression, inventive actions, and moments of heroic—or risky—brilliance.

How AdamPC creates a safe table
All of my games are designed to be welcoming and inclusive for players of all ages and experience levels. I use the X, N, & O check-in system to ensure everyone feels comfortable with the content, and we take regular breaks for sessions longer than two hours. After each session, we follow up with a Stars and Wishes feedback check-in to hear what worked well and what could be improved. My goal is to create a safe, fun, and supportive environment where players can focus on story, exploration, and collaboration without worry.
