About the adventure
The Knights Radiant, controversial figures from history like the Heralds before them, are supposedly reappearing across the war ravaged continent of Roshar. Rumors of parshmen and parshendi behaving strangely have made it to the Alethi war camps. The world seems like it's changing in huge incomprehensible ways. It's a time for heroes. But that's not you. Yet. Set on Roshar, a planet in Brandon Sanderson's literary universe called the Cosmere, this beginner friendly Cosmere RPG campaign will have you take on the roles of normal Rosharans who find themselves inexplicably on a path to greatness. That path, of course, isn't without trials, which you must muster up the strength and willpower to overcome. Along the way, you might bond a spren and find your own Radiance, take on a Form of Power in the Everstorm, or even find a shardblade or shardplate of your own. Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere is a rich and expansive series, with over a dozen books set on various planets in the universe, all connected by a magical energy called Investiture. However, you don't have to be an expert on the universe to join! The great thing about playing characters just starting their journey in this wildly shifting world is that your characters don't know the rules of the setting either, so come as you are! I'm happy to be the Cosmere/Stormlight expert (I've read all of the books at least twice and spend far too much time reading about the series online) so you can just come along for the ride. Roshar needs heroes now more than ever. And that's not you. But it could be. Think you've got what it takes to take on the forces of Odium and, just maybe, help save the world?

About me
Hi y’all! I’ve been running games across a variety of systems for a decade, spending most of my time with Powered by the Apocalypse games, though I’ve spent my fair share of time with D&D 5E. My work as a GM centers player agency and celebrates diverse players, characters, and worlds, with a particular focus on making space for the queer community. My biggest success in the TTRPG space is producing Moon Harbor Heroes, a Masks: A New Generation actual play podcast, with a rotating cast of 24 performers, and our spin-off series, Moon Harbor Extended. My expertise, as mentioned above, is in Powered by the Apocalypse games: Monster of the Week, Monsterhearts, Thirsty Sword Lesbians, Avatar Legends, Babes in the Woods, and, of course, Masks: A New Generation. I also love exploring more indie games, such as Yazeba’s Bed and Breakfast, Die Laughing, Honey Heist, Anyone Can Wear the Mask, and Don’t Rest Your Head. My newest interest is the Stormlight RPG; as a massive Cosmere nerd, I’m excited to explore that world. I’ve run a few one shots and am eager to play more of it. Whether you’re a new player looking to play a game for the first time, an experienced player looking to explore an unfamiliar system, or a veteran looking for games to join, I’m your girl! Reach out! I'd love to help bring your stories to life!

Creating your character
We will be creating characters during session 0. I will connect with each player prior to the session starting (once they have joined my Discord server) and get a general sense of the character so I can have a template ready for each player in Demiplane. Players are welcome to do this ahead of time, but there's no obligation to, as there will be time at the start to do this. I will have share all the materials via my Demiplane account so you don't have to bring anything. You're welcome to peruse the handbook ahead of time, but it is not necessary for character creation.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will have to join a private Discord server, which I will send a link to prior to the session. We will have a channel specifically for this group so you can post character creation thoughts, memes, whatever you'd like (that's appropriate to the group, obviously). Players are welcome to play with physical dice, but Demiplane does have rolling capability, which removes the need for a dice pool and any manual calculations.
What Tess brings to the table
RPGs are collaborative stories. I encourage my players to take ownership of these worlds, because you're as much a creator of it as I am (second, of course, to Brandon Sanderson, who gets all the worldbuilding credit). We are in this experience together, so I want you to feel that you have autonomy in it. (Well, not Autonomy, she's on a different planet, but the point stands.) Combat and roleplay are equally important in the Cosmere RPG (after all, war is Roshar's primary export), so I'll be giving both equal priority. I love finding ways to make things just a little harder (narratively) for the characters, because it makes the final outcome is all that much more worth it. Many of my players have started apprehensive about that but end campaigns with me asking me to make things worse; I've found that challenges make the outcome all that much more powerful. About me: I've been running TTRPGs in a professional context for seven years. I have been the producer and primary GM of a Masks: A New Generation podcast (Moon Harbor Heroes) since 2019 and have run games at multiple conventions across the DMV. I'm a trans woman and as such strive to have completely inclusive tables. I have read all of the Cosmere books twice, except Isles of the Emberdark, which I'm on my fourth read of right now because it's my new favorite book, and White Sand, because I have a hard time focusing on graphic novels. I'm hardly a Cosmere encyclopedia, but I'm certainly a Cosmere Wikipedia article.
Homebrew rules
I'm planning to use rules as written for the most part, but I'm always willing to rule of cool now and then.

How Tess creates a safe table
I have a Google Form of common Lines and Veils that I will send out ahead of time that my players can fill out. At the top of the session, I will give a few minutes for everyone to add anything they missed or anything that has changed, then I will read those out loud and post them in the chat. I also use the X card, which I encourage players to either message me directly or just say out loud. Because this isn't going to be on camera (and I'll likely be looking at multiple screens), I won't be able to see a visual cue, but I'll immediately check a Discord notification.
