About the adventure
Beyond the shadows of our mundane streets and shops lies another, secret world: a world full of monsters, gods and cryptids, of strange dimensions and impossible histories, of occult conspiracies and mystical secrets. Mundane humans cannot possibly comprehend nor defend against it. Only you, a mage, can perceive the Lie for what it really is, and only you can do something about it. Will you risk your soul for the chance of insight and power, for the opportunity to bend the world to your will? You are one of the Awakened: a mage capable of powerful magics. Along with your cabalmates, you will hunt for mysteries hiding below the skin of the world. There are others like you, too, belonging to mystical Orders that can either help or hinder you, depending on whether their obssessions intersect with yours or not. Your spells can rewrite reality, but if your reach exceeds your grasp you will be punished with a paradox that'll twist your spell in the worst possible way. And you'll need to keep your powers secrets, too, for the world is Fallen and mundane humans can poison the mysteries whenever they find them... even your magic. The French Quarter of New Orleans will be the main scenario for this chronicle. Among the many mysteries the city has to offer, you can: ⭐ Hunt down dangerous mages that can steal souls! ⭐ Bargain with the lesser gods of the Shadow for safe passage between worlds. ⭐ Summon angels and demons in search for magical relics. ⭐ Explore a haunted manor full of murderous ghosts. ⭐ Fight rival mages in mystical duels of sorcery. ⭐ Protect your mundane loved ones from the depredations of blood-sucking monsters.

About me
Hi there! I’m Javi, and I’ve been running Dungeons & Dragons games and other TTRPGs since 1995. That year, I first discovered TTRPGs and instantly fell in love with the hobby. It quickly became a creative calling: building worlds, guiding adventurers, and crafting stories that leave lasting impressions on people. I care most about creating experiences that feel exciting and emotionally grounded. I want players to feel immersed in the story; this means they make meaningful choices and form real connections. My three decades of experience has given me the tools to create detailed, unique, and memorable gaming sessions with a sense of depth and agency. Whether the tone leans toward epic, tragic, or lighthearted, my focus is always on immersion, character-driven storytelling, and building a table where everyone feels safe and excited to roleplay. Over the years, I’ve run games for a wide range of players and personalities, and I’ve learned that the best sessions come from trust and communication. I love adapting to different playstyles and weaving each player’s imagination into the adventure. If you’re looking for a game that values story, character, and genuine collaboration, I'd love to see you at my table. The adventure’s waiting, and there’s always room for one more!

Creating your character
During session 0 you will create your characters as part of a new cabal of novice mages. Alternatively, I will provide a host of pregenerated characters to choose from if you prefer a different option, or perhaps to use it as an inspiration fodder. Discussion of expectations, shared history together and interpersonal relationships is key here. We will focus on what tie the characters together, and what they want to accomplish as a cabal. You don't need to know the rules of the game at first; I will guide you at every step of character creation. However, this is a game with deep lore and deep themes, so learning about both the system and the world of the Awakened will be incredibly rewarding if you choose to immerse yourself in this narrative experience. There is no rush, but the more you learn about your mage character, the more amazing things you will get to experience, I promise.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Before you join the game, please make sure you have access to the following things: ⭐ Have a Discord Account- We'll use voice chat here to host the session. ⭐ Use a working microphone so we don't lose any swears, cheers, or battle cries. ⭐ A good pair of headphones so you don't miss a beat. ⭐ Cams are encouraged, yet optional! I'll be running my camera, as I'm comfortable and feel that it adds to player immersion. No pressure on your end, but would love to have you join. ⭐ Have a reliable computer and stable internet access so you can jump in to Roll20 or Owlbear Rodeo.
What Javi GZ brings to the table
I have decades running ttrpgs under my belt. I strive to bring the characters and the world to life. I do voices when I can and add my own spin to the world and the NPCs so they stand out. I have a deep level of knowledge and insight about the system and the world, having it run for years on end. Whether your main interest lies in roleplaying your character, exploring mysteries or engaging in occult intrigues, there should be a little bit of something for everyone to enjoy.

How Javi GZ creates a safe table
This chronicle will straddles the boundary between horror and urban fantasy, so dark, mature themes will come up on a fairly regular basis. That said, everyone deserves a table where they know the boundaries, understand the tone, and feel comfortable speaking up if something crosses a personal line. I keep safety tools simple, clear, and unobtrusive so the game stays immersive without becoming overly sanitized. ⭐ Session 0 Basics. Before we begin, we’ll briefly cover: - Tone (urban fantasy, horror, personal stakes—not gratuite violence for shock value). - Player expectations (team-focused, respectful, cooperative). - Campaign elements you can and cannot expect (e.g., PvP, romance, discrimination, etc). This takes just a few minutes and ensures we all start on the same page. 📄 Lines & Veils (Short Version). I provide a short list of common lines & veils in Discord. You can add anything privately or publicly. No essays, no deep dives—just clear boundaries. Lines = Not included. Veils = May appear, but only off-screen. This keeps the campaign intense without crossing genuine comfort limits. 🛑 X/N/O Tools (Simple & Quiet). I use a minimal, discreet system that does not interrupt the game: X = “Hard stop, skip this, move on.” N = “Not loving this direction, adjust a bit.” O = “All good, keep going.” You can message me directly or drop the letter in Discord. You'll never need to explain why. 🧭 Respect at the Table. I expect everyone to: - Respect each other - Avoid PvP unless explicitly agreed - Keep character conflict in-character only - Use mature judgment when dealing with horror themes. ⚖️ Horror With Control. New Orleans Unveiled includes dread, danger, and intensity—but I do not use: - Graphic gore for shock value - Sexual violence (hard line) - Torture scenes - Misery for misery’s sake Horror should feel engaging and dramatic, not exploitative or uncomfortable. 💬 Aftercare (Lightweight). After each session, I open a quick check-in channel where you can: - Ask questions. - Clarify moments. - Mention anything that didn’t land right. - Celebrate cool character moments. It’s optional and brief—no group therapy, just honest communication.
