About the adventure
You and your fellows suddenly appear into a world on the brink of death; massive deserts of dust, haunted by strange monsters, dotted with tiny oases of life. Each oasis supports plants and water, allowing small cities to exist, but they don't seem to be doing well, and some are shrinking by the day. You don't know who you are, how you came to be here, or why... but the people who found you seem to think you are meant to save it, a shadowy group worries you will destroy it, and ancient creatures in hiding eye you with interest. The fate of this place seems to be in your hands, so you better figure out where you are, and what it is you want, quickly... -- Chronicles of a Dying World is an exploration campaign, where figuring out who you are and what is going on is a big part of the story. Start without a backstory and find your voice and personality during play, figure out the history of this place, and then forever leave your mark on the world at the end of the campaign. This campaign is open to all players; newbies or experienced players are welcome. However, because you don't need a backstory or much knowledge of the world, it's very well suited for newer players. It's also suited for players who need more time getting into a character, or prefer figuring out who they are during play instead of before the campaign begins.

About me
Hey there! I'm Pluis, or Erik in more mundane circumstances. I have been hooked on roleplaying games since I was first told by a friend that "we have a game where you play the hero and roll dice" and leading them since he said "When you're the DM you can make up whatever worlds and stories you like". That was 20 years ago, and I've run many a table since. I've run campaigns from the basic to the bizarre, hosting for beginners and experienced players, laidback peeps and chaos gremlins, deep roleplayers and casual dice chuckers... and all those games are great, because there's just nothing like sharing a table and spinning a story with people and seeing where it all takes you. My focus has always been on exploration, mystery and a bit of magical wonder. I enjoy making worlds and stories that surprise players, and then give them every opportunity to leave their mark on it. And now I am here, because I feel it is time to try and reveal my final form... playing online, with people from all over the world. Want to come explore some new worlds with me?

Creating your character
If you want to create your own character, follow Step 1-5 and 8 of character creation. Keep experiences, background questions, and connection empty - those are filled in during the first few sessions. Keep your background sparse; your character will only remember fragments of who they are. At the start of the first session, we'll take a moment to fill in bonds and come up with experiences. Discovery is part of the fun. You can also ask me to make you a character if you prefer, just let me know.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Follow the first steps of character creation as mentioned above, or contact me if you need help. You will need to join my Discord Server, as we will use it for video & audio during session. You will need a free account with The Forge to join the campaign world. Foundry will be used as the VTT. Make sure you have access to a computer or laptop (no mobile device), with a modern browser, a working internet connection, a microphone and ideally a webcam.
What Erik brings to the table
Expect adventure, exploration and mystery. You get to explore my custom world, try to figure out its history and shape its future. There will be unique monsters, places to go, and people to meet. I will provide an online virtual tabletop, a Discord server for all your questions, maps and scenery, and sometimes ambient music. I will make room for your input in terms of where the story ends and how the future of the Dying World is shaped. I will also assist new players with building characters and advice where requested. I wish to make this a safe and fun journey for everyone. And finally, some handdrawn art by my daughter, because she wants to be an artist and has a lot more soul to her work then if I use AI to generate it.
Homebrew rules
The setting and many of the adversaries will be custom. The only rule changes are that one of your Experiences will be replaced with an Impulse, which is mechanically the same thing, just a little broader, and that some bonds and background questions will be asked and answered during play instead of before it. Other than that, we'll use the normal rules for Daggerheart.

Safety
How Erik creates a safe table
We will be using the X/N/O cards, which you can either state out loud, or send to me in chat. (I will be monitoring Discord private messages during the game for this) My DMs will be open in general for concerns, and we can skip or revert most things that might be problematic for any players. While the story is set in a dying place, the focus of the story will be on heroes doing heroic things, not on awful events. There will be a scheduled break roughly halfway through the session. You can also request a short break at another time if you need one, or just step away for a bit if you need to without stopping the rest of the game. At the end of each session, there's room to leave feedback in the form of stars and wishes.
