About the adventure
North of the Spine of the World and the city of Luskan, westwards of the imposing Reghed Glacier lies a freezing stretch of land, few dare to travel to, lest inhabit this place ridden by howling winds. Even norther still, where nary an hour of light touches, stands Faerûn's most isolated prison - Revel’s End. Built to hold the most dangerous minds and devastating warriors in the Realm - its walls are iron, its guards the very same, and escape is considered impossible. For one reason or another, you all find yourself incarcerated within - innocent, guilty? It doesn't matter. The guards lost your keys months ago, and you'll not be seeing your homes again, lest it be within a coffin. You had all but given-up hope of escaping this hole when, one day, you found a crumpled-up note inside of your oat gruel. Penned by a mysterious patron from beyond the prison walls, offering the one thing none of you thought you would see again. Freedom. To earn it, you need to complete a job for them that can only be achieved from within the prison's walls. -- ⛓️ A D&D 5e One-Shot set in Revel’s End, the remote prison-fortress of the Sword Coast North. ⛓️ Designed as a short introductory game for prospective players. ⛓️ A focused, self-contained adventure with strong narrative and tense decision-making. ⛓️ Roleplay-forward with meaningful choices and consequences. ⛓️ Challenges that reward clever thinking as much as good rolls. ⛓️ The environment, the guards, and the situation itself are as much your enemies as any stat block. ⛓️ As a fun tidbit, this is the prison featured in the Honor Among Thieves movie! -- This game is for you to see how I run roleplay, pacing, encounters, and table flow, and it’s for me to see how you approach problems, work with a group, and what parts of the game you lean into. Table chemistry matters a lot to me - I aim to build groups where people feel comfortable being creative, speaking up, and investing in the story and each other. If we click and everyone has a great time, this can open the door to spots in some longer, more narrative-heavy campaigns together! But, if you're just looking to roll some dice and have some fun without any longer-term commitments, this is a great opportunity for that also. Beginner-friendly & welcoming to veterans. Fun first, but investment and engagement go a long way! Thank you for reading. -- Talespire is my VTT of-choice. I'll attach some screenshots to this post of my Talespire games! Every area is 100% playable and explorable. Additionally, long-term players will get professionally made mini's of their PC's! About me
Greetings all! The name's Aran. I'm a twenty-five year old fella from the United Kingdom and I've been DMing for around 9~ years now, with a fair portion of that time spent on Roll20 and Talespire. I'm fairly well-experienced on both sides of the DM's screen. Thank you for taking an interest in my game(s)! If I had to describe myself simply, I'm a guy that loves discussing all manner of media, hobbies, and interests - fantasy media, games, literature, worldbuilding, you name it - even ones that aren't my own. I simply enjoy folks being passionate! As such, I hope to hear about your hobbies as well, and get to know you guys as players! D&D's a lot more fun when it's a game played with friends, as opposed to strangers. I always make sure to take the time to chat with y'all between games and I hope that this game's good enough to inspire you to do the same! D&D is very much my main creative pursuit. I create custom maps, miniature's, and mechanics for near-all of my games, and I'm always happy to tweak things to create an enjoyable experience for all. To extrapolate on my experience; I was the president of my College's D&D Club - granted, the main experience that gave me was knowing that nine players might be a bit too many! I've been playing actively since then, near-always running two campaigns simultaneously. If there's one thing that hasn't changed since back when I started, it's that I love doing voices for all my NPC's. I'm no thespian, but I try my damndest to be! If you're searching for a game with a focus on narrative and roleplay – where your character actually lives in and impacts the world – then I may be the DM for you!
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
As this is a one-shot, I'm far less stringent with the character creation process! To keep it simple, the allowed content is; D&D 2024 Player's Handbook, and the contents of Heroes of Faerun/Adventures in Faerun. Level 3 Characters, 27 Point Buy. Given your characters are incarcerated, you start with next-to no gear. There will be opportunities to restock yourselves in the Prison itself, but you start merely with the clothes on your back and, for Martial characters, a rudimentary club or shiv(dagger) that you've fashioned.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
I'll be running this game on my preferred VTT, Talespire! Beyond my own games, I highly recommend giving it a try. It's a one-time purchase (I believe for $20) and it's wholly worth the money. I recommend purchasing it for this game but, if needed, I can stream the VTT over Discord. Otherwise, this game will use Discord for voice and, given the nature of the game, you may host your sheets on whatever service you prefer, so long as I can look it over before we jump into the game!
What Aran brings to the table
I bring deep, immersive storytelling and roleplay, with 11 years of writing experience and 9 years of roleplaying under my belt. Expect NPCs with motivations, quirks, and personalities, a world that reacts to your choices, and opportunities for your character to grow in ways unique to you. Combat is challenging and dynamic, with environmental twists and boss-like mechanics that reward clever thinking and creative solutions, but I also lean into the Rule of Cool so clever ideas can shine. I come from a game design background, and visual fidelity is very important to me. Maps are fully realized, important NPCs get custom minis, and I run my games on Talespire 3D to make locations feel alive. I also use ambient music, sound effects, and character voices to help bring the story to life. My table is welcoming and inclusive, open to all experience levels and backgrounds. I prioritize a friendly, collaborative space where creativity is encouraged, levity is welcome, and everyone can feel comfortable contributing. Whether you’re here for tactical challenges, rich roleplay, or just a fun, creative experience, I adapt to what the table enjoys most and always create opportunities for each player to shine.
Homebrew rules
For this adventure, the only Homebrew rule of real note is that drinking Potions (should you find any) is a Bonus Action. My actual Campaigns use a larger Homebrew rules list, including; - Alternative Spellcasting Modifiers - Longer-Long Rests | Homebrew Downtime rules to work in tandem. - Expanded Character Revival - Homebrew Travel Rules This list isn't exhaustive, but features some of my larger systems. New players to my table have called the rules intuitive, and I often keep on top of them myself so you don't need to memorize all my homebrew material.

How Aran creates a safe table
I'm someone with open-door and active communication - I'm always willing to talk things out and go to great lengths to ensure that everyone's comfortable at the table. Before the game, I will inquire with each player about your Lines & Veils, and work them into an anonymous list for everyone else to keep in mind. We'll take breaks during play and, post-session, I'll stick around to talk things through with everyone. For anything that appears in Content Warnings, talk to me about it! Most of them could be removed, but I'm marking down topics that have occurred in my games in the past.
