About the adventure
Welcome to the sleepy mountain village of Velnoya! People come from near and far to escape their lives in a ski lodge and try the realm-renowned fondue from the The Melted Muse tavern. Your group of new adventurers is looking for a little cheesy retreat when earthquakes shake up your plans. The tectonic shivering causes chaos among the villagers and you feel compelled to help them. A secret order known as The Esoteric Society of Arcane Studies that lives within this hamlet are running around like the end of the world is about to burst out of the severe cracks. What do they know? And what can you do to prevent such an apocalypse from ocurring? This one shot is for level 5 adventurers and will be more puzzle heavy as the Party explores what this Society has kept secret for centuries. Puzzle solving will be crucial to checking on if an ancient evil has awoken beneath this mountain village. There will be lots of room for RP and some combat as well. This story will be told entirely by us. No genAI will be permitted at this table.

About me
Hello! My name is thewereraven, or Locke (they/he) if you'd prefer. I have been a GM for about 7 years. I really adore the story-telling and character creation aspects of TTRPGs. Creating a collaborative stories with others is just an amazing experience. I would consider myself a writer and a story-teller at heart. I am also a DnD creator on TikTok and cohost of podcast: Darklords & Dragons.

Creating your character
Character creation will happen before the one shot session. Characters will be level 5 and use Standard Array for stats. Anything in official D&D 5e (2014 rules) is fair game. If you'd like to use D&D Beyond to make your character sheet, please do as it will give you access to any of the content on there that I own. Anything third party will need to be run by me for approval.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
For this one shot, you will need a webcam and mic (and be comfortable with playing with both on within the discord VC). You will need a Discord account to join the server in which this one shot will be played. Roll20 will be used for any maps or visuals necessary for the one shot. A base understanding of how D&D 5e (2014 rules) would be good to come in with but this one shot is open to beginners as well! Have your level 5 character created before the one shot.
What Locke brings to the table
I am a RP heavy DM so this one shot will have a focus on that as well as the puzzles. I embrace the Rule of Cool for amazing story moments and am always open to players' creativity for solutions. I will be providing the link to the Discord, the Roll20 link, and (if you use D&D Beyond) content sharing in D&D Beyond for access to extra resources. My work will always be human made. No genAI will ever be used in the writing or art and I ask that my players do the same.
Homebrew rules
1.) Potions. Using a potion (of any kind) on yourself is a bonus action in combat. However, giving a potion (of any kind) to another player costs an action. 2.) Flanking in combat is allowed and will grant you advantage on attacks. You and your ally must be in a straight line on opposite sides of the enemy/attacker for it to work.

How Locke creates a safe table
Before the one shot, players will be expected to fill out the Monte Cook RPG Consent list. Before diving into the game, the day of the one shot we'll go over any safety tools and lines like a mini session 0. We will also be using an X card system, which can be used within the Roll20 VTT or messaged to me privately. We will also take two planned ten minute breaks throughout the 4 to 5 hours. After the one shot, an aftercare unwinding is always available to hang out and talk about the session and how everyone felt about it.
