About the adventure
Welcome to Icewind Dale, a frozen frontier where the sun rarely shines and the wind cuts sharper than any blade. In this harsh, unforgiving land, the people cling to life amid glaciers, snowstorms, and the ever-present threat of monstrous creatures lurking beyond the towns and passes. The small communities are bound together by survival, yet secrets and shadows hide in every icy corner. This adventure is for players who love suspense, exploration, and high-stakes survival. You’ll face bitter cold, treacherous terrain, and ancient mysteries buried under the snow. The game blends thrilling combat, tense exploration, and rich roleplaying opportunities, giving you a chance to shape the story with clever choices, daring rescues, and the occasional morally gray decision. Expect a world of stark beauty and constant danger. From frozen caves to wind-whipped mountains, each journey will test your wits, courage, and ingenuity. But treasure, legend, and the chance to make a lasting impact in Icewind Dale await those bold enough to endure Auril’s icy grip. Whether you’re a veteran adventurer or new to D&D, this campaign invites players who enjoy teamwork, clever problem-solving, and a touch of chilling suspense. Will you uncover the secrets hidden beneath the eternal frost, or will the cold claim you first?

About me
Hello! My name is Michael, I'm 35, I live in Chicago, and I have been playing Dungeons & Dragons since the AD&D days (DMing for 19 years). When I am not performing on the stage I am DMing for groups of players from all over the world. I have been playing D&D5E since the beginning (2014) and love the system. I have hosted over a thousand sessions and have more than 16,000 hours of experience with online table top gaming. I'm down for meeting new people, exploring vast dungeons, slaying monsters, and saving the multiverse, one plane of existence at a time.

Creating your character
We’ll work together to create your characters before the first session. I’ll guide you through the process, so even new players can jump in comfortably. Characters will start at level 1, and we’ll use the standard D&D 5e rules for stats—point buy, standard array, or rolled stats are all options we can discuss. You can use any official D&D sourcebooks, including Player’s Handbook, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, or Xanathar’s Guide to Everything. Homebrew content can be considered on a case-by-case basis—just check with me first. If you’re interested in joining the game, reach out and we’ll schedule a time to talk. Together, we’ll build a character that fits the harsh, frozen world of Icewind Dale and the story we’ll explore.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Before the first session, please make sure you have the following ready: Accounts & Platforms: You’ll need a Roll20 account to play and Discord for voice chat. Equipment: A working headset or headphones, microphone, and a stable internet connection. Game Knowledge: No prior mastery of D&D or Roll20 is required! I’ll teach you the system as we play, so don’t worry if you’re new. Once these steps are complete, you’ll be ready to join the frozen adventure of Icewind Dale and dive into the story with the group.
What Michael brings to the table
As your GM, I bring the world of Icewind Dale to life with voice acting, ambient music, and detailed maps to set the mood for every scene. All combat encounters use grids on Roll20, so tactical battles are clear and engaging, while still allowing freedom and creativity. I primarily run games using Rules as Written, but I’m laid-back and love the Rule of Cool—if you have a wild idea, we’ll figure out how to make it work. Your choices matter: I prioritize what my players want to do and where they want to go, making sure everyone feels heard and the story reflects your actions. Expect a game that is immersive, dynamic, and fun, where your creativity shapes the adventure as much as the world itself.

How Michael creates a safe table
Player comfort is my top priority. Before we begin, we’ll have a one-on-one Session 0 where you can discuss any topics, boundaries, or concerns privately with me. At the start of Session 1, we’ll address group expectations together to ensure everyone feels safe and respected. I aim to create a relaxing and welcoming environment where players can engage fully in the story without worry. We’ll use tools like Lines and Veils, X/N/O signals, or other methods to keep content appropriate for everyone, and I’m always available for aftercare or follow-ups if anything feels uncomfortable during the game. The goal is simple: a space where you can explore, create, and have fun while feeling supported and respected at every step of the adventure.
