About me

Hello Adventurers! I have been a Dungeon Master since the day I fell in love with the game at 13 years old. We started with pen paper and the D&D starter box set. Now I am proud to say I have had the pleasure of sharing my campaign setting dozens of times with friends and strangers over the last 25+ years. I truly believe in letting players run wild in my settings, each campaign enriches the worlds lore. I encourage players both new and experienced to apply, all are welcome. I host games for beginners and veterans alike and am currently running several campaigns that run at different paces.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character Creation will take place in the 1st session. As a campaign designed for newcomers to the game sharing this process is an essential part of the campaign. Create your characters as a group, aiming for a balanced team. Characters will use all the resources available in Core 3.5 edition players handbook (available to share during sessions). All rolls will be done in session. The method for creation sometimes vary, but in this instance players will roll 5d6 and omit the two lowest die rolls and then assign values to stats. Again, the core books only as this is an introductory campaign.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players should have access to discord and have a set of dice available. As an option to ensure honesty, the game may be moved from discord to digital rolls in the Roll20 app. All maps will be provided during session. A digital copy of a character sheet will also be provided to submit to the DM after character creation.

What Ryan Smith brings to the table

My campaigns have all the resources needed for players to create their characters and grow, core rulebooks, digital character sheets, indexed reference materials, full colour battle-maps, voice acting, storytelling and interesting tactical combat. Follow the rules and sprinkle in the rule of cool at the DM's discretion. Expect a fully functional world with fantastical ecosystems and a diverse monster population.

Homebrew rules

As an introductory campaign the content will be introduced as is with very little homebrew. In future campaigns we can expand on the world and truly be immersed in the fantasy world with a bit of homebrew but the focus of this campaign is teaching the basics and having fun within that framework.

Safety

How Ryan Smith creates a safe table

Session 0 is a great place to start. There we will outline what the campaign setting includes and have people share (in private if necessary) their individual preferences AFTER having read what is already established in the campaign notes including the Lines and Veils. We will have regular breaks along with good debriefing practices to ensure that future sessions allow everyone to feel safe as well as ensure the content is engaging.
