About the adventure

You reawaken from what you thought was your final death into a world beyond. A world darker than anything you imagined awaiting you beyond the veil. Your time as an adventurer is not yet over as you have awoken in the land of Adencaester. You must start anew, you are the Last Embers, the last chance to defeat the Ruin King and relight the bonfires of the world and save existence in this realm and beyond. Experience a world where deadly combatants lurk around every corner; the only safety available in the few allies you find scattered in the world and the warmth of the bonfires you relight. Fight through the hordes of horrors, undead and the land itself as you reclaim the region, stop The Extinguishing and become a hero once again. This campaign is a mashup of 5e and a Souls-Like experience. The game will have a heavy combat focus with deadly strategic encounters and quick paced, savage boss fights. With homebrew mechanics from the games like bonfires and additional movement reactions to bring more gameplay to the tabletop format. Are you ready to ignite The Last Embers?

About me

Hey my name is Ryan I started GM-ing and playing D&D and other TTRPGs like a lot of people during the lockdown year, after dabbling in TTRPGs during High School . I've been DM-ing 2 weekly games since January of 2021 and been on Twitch with them since August of that same year.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character Creation will be done before and up through session zero! I do allow but need to approve homebrew for character creation. (Subclasses, Backgrounds, Feats). We'll be doing a group roll for stats! (Everyone rolls one or more stats)(The group gets two rerolls). I do allow 2024 custom backgrounds.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please have a D&D Beyond Account and join the campaign and the Discord server. Have and message me(Ryryjones on Discord) a character concept and we can work on it before and up through session zero.

What Ryan Jones brings to the table

Before we even begin the game we will get you into my active discord to talk and chat with fellow TTRPG fans, I will be there every step of the way through character creation to make your character immersed in the world and an active participant in the events that unfold. I try and make the game as immersive as we can over the internet this includes: NPC voices! Background music! Scene ambience! Battle maps! and Heroforge Minis! My goal is to make all sessions and combats engaging with a dynamic world and environment where actions and things you do as players matter and shape the story. Create active story telling and roleplay scenarios with interesting challenges that keep players engaged, as I know sitting there waiting to act or react during sessions can be boring. Additionally I do try to stick to the rules but I openly embrace the coolness factor in what you all want to do.

Homebrew rules

Initiative can be your wisdom or dexterity modifier Fluid AC, unarmored areas on monsters have lower AC. Every player gets 2 new reactions per round. You may take each reaction once per round of combat. ---Dodge Roll - attempt to dodge any attack. DC is 10 or ½ the attack roll whichever is higher. ---Dash Roll - Attempt to move out of an area of effect, costs a reaction and a maximum of 10ft of movement speed. Bonfires for Long Rests- Bonfires available throughout the world will act as the system for engaging in long rests. Better Critical Hits: Max damage on weapon roll, roll the critical damage dice Flanking is a +2 to attack rolls unless 4 or more people are attacking a target in which case it is advantage Better Health Potions: If taken as an action heals the maximum amount. Characters gain a level of exhaustion at the end of combat if they made a death save during that combat.

How Ryan Jones creates a safe table

Everyone during character creation will fill out a consent form to know what their lines and veils are. If anything not included comes up players can throw up the X whenever and we can rewind or step away from the scene.
