About the adventure

Welcome to the Province of Evernight, a land locked in the grip of the "Umbral Season." Here, the sun does not rise for six months of the year. The world is lit only by the shifting colors of the aurora borealis and the pale blue glow of street lamps fueled by rendered monster fat. You are a student of Hoarfrost Academy. You are not here to read books; you are here to hunt. The Academy organizes students into Cabals—squads of four to six hunters who live, study, and fight together. Life at Hoarfrost is a ruthless competition. Cabals vie for the top spot on The Ledger. Every monster slain earns points. High-ranking Cabals enjoy luxurious private suites, fine dining, and first rights to rare materials. Low-ranking Cabals sleep in the drafty barracks and scrape by on leftovers. Rivalries are fierce, and the pressure to perform is crushing. You are what you hunt in Evernight, a steel sword is a peasant’s weapon. True power comes from the beast. You will not purchase magical gear from a shop—you craft it from your prey. The bells of the Academy are ringing. The gates to the Endless Weald are opening. The monsters are hungry, but so are you. Form your Cabal, track your prey, and forge your legend in bone and blood. Will you conquer the cold, or will you become just another trophy for the dark?

About me

I bring nearly a decade of experience behind the screen, starting with D&D 5e before moving Pathfinder 2e on its release. My approach to GMing is deeply rooted in a background of performance and game mastery. I spent years in the podcasting space, hosting shows on GM theory and character build crafting as well as performing in actual play productions. I also spent many years playing in a local hardcore band, and music remains a massive influence on my creative process. I am a lifelong nerd with a passion for deep, immersive worlds like Star Wars, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout. I am also an avid tabletop wargamer with experience in Warcry, Infinity, and Warhammer 40k, where I play Tau. When I am not prepping campaigns, I am usually playing cooperative or strategy video games like Darktide, XCOM, and Age of Wonders 4 or RPGs like Baldur's Gate 3, Mass Effect, and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players can create their character's prior to the first session but we will be able to discus it together in the discord to ensure party balance. Players will have access to the Foundry to create their characters before session 1. Characters will be starting at level 1 and will use the free archetype rules (those come into effect at level 2). For backstory a paragraph is fine multiple pages isn't required as the game will focus on the now and not the past.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

What Forest brings to the table

Expect the game to largely follow the rules. There will be ambient music during sessions (volume can be controlled by players individually). Players can expect a good amout of RP with realistic NPCs and tactical combat that will require teamwork. Players will need to make competent characters this is not the game for joke characters. The tone will be largly serious in game but laid back out.

Homebrew rules

We will be using the Battlezoo Bestiary 3rd party rules for the monster crafting aspect of the game. Here is a link to additional homebrew https://docs.google.com/document/d/1aq6SVskK4mFpWwN7A30poTPQDXF3N24KiFWhvjqyccU/edit?usp=sharing
