About the adventure

Across the planes, mortals who reach the peak of power are offered a single, terrible choice: attempt ascension — or remain forever unworthy. Divine Ascension is a recurring Level 20 D&D 5e one-shot series where heroes face mythic adversaries in trials designed to test whether they deserve godhood. These trials are not fair. They are not balanced. They are final. ⚖️ THE TRIALS OF ASCENSION Each party must choose the Tier of Trial before play begins. This decision is part of the story — the powers that oversee Ascension ask only one question: “How much of yourselves are you willing to sacrifice to become divine?” 🟢 Trial of the Demi-God Adversary CR: 20–25 Expectation: Party success likely Outcome: Survivors ascend as Demi-Gods, bound to a narrow divine concept. 🔵 Trial of the Lesser God Adversary CR: 26–30 Expectation: Some casualties Outcome: Survivors ascend as Lesser Gods, their fallen allies remembered as martyrs of Ascension. 🟠 Trial of the Intermediate God Adversary CR: 31–35 Expectation: Extreme lethality Outcome: One (or none) may survive — those who do ascend as Intermediate Gods, their companions erased from mortal memory. 🔴 Trial of the Greater God Adversary CR: 36–40 Expectation: Near-certain TPK Outcome: Rarely passed. Success reshapes the divine order. Failure becomes legend. 🏛️ THE PLACE OF ASCENSION The trials occur in a realm beyond time — part arena, part god-domain — shaped by the adversary being faced. Each battle is both a test and a spectacle, watched by powers that may one day become rivals… or peers. 🩸 IMPORTANT PLAYER WARNING (CLEAN & HONEST) This game embraces high lethality by design. Death is not failure — it is the price of attempting godhood. Not all trials are meant to be survived. This is not a PVP, this is all the Players trying to beat the s%&t out of some Epic Challenge to reach Godhood.

About me

Hello! I'm DM Mat, a game master with over 35 years of experience behind the screen. I started with Advanced Dungeons & Dragons and have played through every era up to D&D 5e 2024. Over the decades I’ve run countless stories across many worlds — from grim mysteries to wild planar adventures to hilarious improv-driven chaos. I really enjoy a wide cast of pro DMs, but Chris Perkins and Acquisitions Incorporated stand out to me: energetic, improvisational, character-driven, and always adapted to the tone of the table. Sessions can be serious, heroic, comedic, dark, or a mix — whatever brings out the most fun for the group. I run one-shots, long campaigns, play-by-post games, sandbox explorations, West Marches, and reimagined official modules like Curse of Strahd, Storm King’s Thunder, Tomb of Annihilation, Descent into Avernus, Rise of the Runelords, Kingmaker, and Age of Worms. I also love Eberron, Planescape, Faerûn, and fully homebrew worlds. I mostly run games in French or English as suits the current party. In my games, both newcomers and seasoned heroes are equally welcome. I can also run games for your group or a private event — just inquire, we acquire. Above all, my tables are respectful, collaborative, and focused on shared enjoyment. If you love exploration, memorable characters, surprising twists, and a relaxed but immersive atmosphere, I’d be happy to welcome you to the adventure.

What DM Mat brings to the table

This one-shot will be a test of the fittest, battle map will be used for clarity. I sometimes use music and ambiant sounds, but from my experience, many players just turn it off on their side as it is often a distraction. I usually don't play with webcam, if all the group prefer to play with webcam, we can turn it on for online sessions.
