About the adventure

Something strange is happening to your hometown of Willowshore! Nestled on the banks of a river winding through the legendary Specterwood in Tian Xia’s haunted land of Shenmen, the people of Willowshore are no strangers to supernatural threat, but the danger that comes to town on the first day of summer is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. Over the four seasons to come, you and your fellow home-grown heroes must face evil spirits, sinister fiends, and frightening curses, lest the town of Willowshore succumb to the Season of Ghosts! Inspired by East Asian folklore, myths, and legends, this is a great opportunity to delve into all the new character options in the newly released Tian Xia world guide. We will be playing weekly at the same time in three to four hour sessions, using the immersive and atmospheric Foundry VTT module.

About me

Greetings, adventurers. My name is George, and I have been immersing myself in TTRPGs since around 2001. My journey into the realm of Game Mastering took a serious turn with the release of Pathfinder. My background in theatre, history, and education has been instrumental in shaping my GM style, which emphasizes dramatic conflict, challenging decisions, and character development. I’ve had the pleasure of engaging with a diverse and international player population, both online and in person. This experience has enriched my understanding of the game and its global appeal. The games I run are primarily drawn from official Paizo publications for Pathfinder, supplemented by key resources from publishers like Kobold Press and Sly Flourish. In each campaign, I make it a point to engage with the player characters’ backgrounds. This begins with a session zero where we collaboratively create characters that align with the theme of the campaign. Each campaign I run is a unique world unto itself. I strive to create a distinctive and consistent atmosphere for each one, whether it’s the dark and grim tone of a horror campaign or the epic battles of a high fantasy adventure. Some campaigns may include unique mechanics tailored to their theme. My games, even when played remotely online, aim to emulate the feel of a traditional tabletop experience as much as possible. I prefer to keep technology from overwhelming the gameplay, allowing us to focus on the human elements of the game - the people around our virtual table. I am always available to answer questions through this site. If you have any doubts before signing up for a session, please contact me. I am always eager to hear from established parties who are looking for a new GM. Whether you have already been gaming together, or you are a group of friends, coworkers, or a family group, I would love to embark on an adventure with you. I am also open to requests from existing/ongoing groups for a specific campaign for your party. Whether you have a published module in mind or just an idea that you’d like to develop, I’m here to help you play the game you want to play! Remember, the essence of tabletop gaming is to have fun and create memorable stories together. Let’s roll the dice!

Character creation

Creating your character

Play will begin at 1st level. All players will use Foundry VTT to create their characters and to keep them updated as we progress through the story. Foundry gives you access to an updated version of the complete rule set, so you do not need to purchase any content to participate. We will be using the Free Archetype optional rule. Players who join later at a higher level will use the "Starting Wealth by Level" table to select appropriate equipment.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A good quality headset is required to play, to prevent audio disturbance and feedback. Video is recommended but not required, but I find in general that games where players opt to use video conferencing are more enjoyable for everyone, as it helps to avoid misunderstandings and miscommunication. Players are expected to be familiar with the rules that apply to their own characters - if you have any doubts feel free to check in at any time over Discord. Characters should be created before the first game, in consultation with the GM and after reading the Players' Guide avalable for free from Paizo at: https://paizo.com/store/pathfinder/adventures/adventurePath/seasonOfGhosts

What George brings to the table

Everything needed to participate in the game will be provided electronically, through Foundry and Discord.

Homebrew rules

We will be using the Free Archetype Optional Rule and the Gradual Ability Boost Optional Rule. Character options from the Tian Xia source book are encouraged but not required!

Safety

How George creates a safe table

During session zero, we will discuss our personal limits on what kind of content we would like to include in the game, using a tool called Lines and Veils. The adventure does have a dark horror theme - it can probably best be described as a ghost story! A version of the "X card" module will be enabled during play, and if there are any other modules that would make the experience better for you please let me know and I will look into adding them. Finally, no language or behaviour that makes other players feel uncomfortable or unwelcome at the table will be tolerated.
