About the adventure

You are a samurai or a rōnin, whether by duty or by coincidence, traveling to the beautiful village of Twin Blessing and the imposing Closed Shell Castle. What was once a peaceful settlement now suffers the deep consequences of broken oaths, hidden truths, and the lingering influence of the spirit world. Your choices will shape the future of this village. You will navigate the complications surrounding the daimyō, confront unrest among the people, and decide how far you are willing to go. Where your decisions lead… is entirely up to you. Sins of Regret is ideal if you enjoy mystery, emotional stakes, japanese folklore and stories with no perfect solutions. ---------------------------- Why I Love Sins of Regret I’m a happy “forever GM” for L5R, and this is my third time running Legend of the Five Rings: Sins of Regret. I love this campaign because of the many different paths a group can take and how drastically those paths can shape the outcome of the story. I especially enjoy how the adventure focus on the common folk and their struggles, as well as the yōkai that still inhabit this mysterious and spiritually charged region.

About me

I have been playing RPGs since I was 10 years old, when my older brother invited me to join one of his games. I fell in love with roleplaying almost immediately and I have never stopped playing since. I studied Game Development and Film Production. I love writing, traveling, and playing games of all kinds, with a special place in my heart for RPGs. You will quickly notice that I am very creative and energetic, which naturally led me to the GM seat. Building worlds and crafting stories is a true passion of mine. Working together with you to create a story that you will always fondly remember is one of the most rewarding parts of the experience for me. My friends and players often describe me as a diplomatic and thoughtful GM who genuinely cares about everyone’s enjoyment at the table. I am a good listener, and I always aim to create a welcoming, fun, and engaging experience for everyone. I lived in Dublin for three years, where I studied Film Production and English. I have now been GMing for 27 years now, and I GM for people from all over the world for more than seven years now.

Character creation

Creating your character

Before the first session, I will send you the background of the adventure to help inspire ideas for your character. During the free Session Zero, we will then create your character together using the 20 Questions method. I will guide you through twenty questions about your character, and by the end of the process, you will have a character ready to play.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

It would be very helpful if you could read about the Great Families and Clans in the Core Rulebook and watch a video or two covering the basic lore. If you don’t have the book, I’m happy to lend you my copy. In any case, I’m always available to talk about the setting and explain the lore if you have any questions. You’ll also need a Discord account, as we’ll be using Discord for talk and Foundry VTT for the game sessions.

What Pedro-GM brings to the table

There will be beautifully maps, detailed character artwork, ambient music, and character voices to help fully immerse you in the world and its story. When it comes to the rules, I embrace the “rule of cool” whenever it fits the scene. If, as a group, we feel that a rule or the description of a power doesn’t quite make sense, we can always adjust it. The goal is to make the game fun and engaging for everyone. For example, I use a homebrew system for mass combat (large-scale army battles) to make them simpler and more dynamic. However, if the players prefer to use the official core rules instead, I’m more than happy to run it that way.

Homebrew rules

Usually, the only homebrew rule I suggest is for Mass Combat. The way I like to handle large-scale battles is by running them as skirmish-style encounters instead. In this system, each token represents a specific type of troop (for example, a unit of Ashigaru), rather than individual soldiers. Your Mass Combat techniques would then enhance your troops’ performance : improving their rolls, restoring their strength, providing tactical advantages, and so on.

Safety

How Pedro-GM creates a safe table

I will be sending you a Lines and Veils document before session 0, for me to read and prepare / change anything from the campaign if necessary, and on session 0 I will explain in detail the themes of the campaign. By the end of every session, I will do the Star and Wishes system for feedback, so the next sessions will fit perfectly with everyone expectations.
