About the adventure

This will be a campaign using the Werewolf: the Apocalypse 20th Anniversary edition, set in the city of Chicago and the surrounding wilderness. To begin the campaign, players will take the role of Garou, werewolves who act as spiritual warriors for mother earth. Players can expect to interact with spirits and travel the spirit realm, uncover sordid secrets of city-dwellers, and battle vampires, ruthless corporations, and heaps of other nasties while they're at it. Settings will range from the teeming metropolis of Chicago to the quiet countryside of rural Illinois and beyond! Absolutely no experience is required; rules and gameplay will be explained as the game progresses. We will begin with a session 0 for safety tools and character creation, which will be free!

About me

Heya! My name is Brandon, though everyone online calls me Dok. I'm a veteran of TTRPGs, both running and playing for about 15 years now. I got my start with some old 1st edition D&D books my father gave me when I was 12. Nowadays, I run all sorts of stuff on a regular basis, ranging from staples like D&D 5E to Call of Cthulhu to more obscure systems like All Flesh Must be Eaten. I fancy myself as quite personable, and I'm always LGBTQ+ friendly. My preferred method for communications is Discord, and I normally use Foundry as a VTT. Thanks for giving me a look!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will occur during Session 0; players will be starting as Rank 1 Garou already in a pack, in a Sept outside Chicago. Characters will follow the standard character creation process outlined in the W20 corebook.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need a Discord account and a decent-quality microphone. Other than that, everything necessary will be provided!

What Dok brings to the table

This game will be played utilizing Foundry VTT; no preparation beforehand is necessary in that regard unless players wish to familiarize themselves with the application. A mix of GM-made and premade maps will be used, and each player will receive a token with art that they designate. The GM will provide all necessary books. I love to use ambient music whenever possible, both for combat and roleplay scenes, and am trying to get better at doing character voices! In terms of GMing style, I tend to focus on story and roleplay over anything else and try to reward good roleplay; I prefer to run Rule of Cool and Rules as Intended where possible rather than strictly adhering to the written word of the book(s).

Homebrew rules

We will be using a transplanted combat system from WoD 5th edition rather than the RAW combat system.

Safety

How Dok creates a safe table

Werewolf is by its nature a rather dark game that carries definite potential to cause discomfort; therefore, I take the use of safety tools very seriously. The primary safety tools I use are Lines and Veils and the X Card. Lines and veils involves discussing topics that would best be left out entirely, as well as those that can be included but should be glossed over (i.e. the fade to black approach). The X card acts as a kind of safeword; if someone holds up the X card, play stops immediately and a break is taken, followed by discussion on what needs to change heading forward. The X card is built into Foundry in this case.
