About me

I teach in College, and it always astounds me that I've been playing ttrpgs for longer than my students have been alive - by a lot. That's over thirty years of rolling dice and creating worlds and making funny voices at a table surrounded by friends! I've mostly been a GM or DM for most of those, and creating worlds, writing adventures, and sharing them with a group of people who then get to make them their own and take them in totally unexpected directions has been one of my great joys. I currently stream several games on Twitch with Folk&Myth, the AP Production studio I co-founded. You can find all my work on twitch or YouTube (links on my webpage). I love creating a sense of discovery and wonder in my games, and always strive to surprise players. I prefer RP-heavy games, though I also believe that combat and conflict resolved through tactics or dice-rolls can be a great source of fun, and add a great dynamic to any game. My strengths are imagination, NPC role-play, my sense of humor, and my ability to keep surprising players. As a teacher, I also have a strong sense of conflict resolution, and the ability to help guide along people with less experience. I strive to create meaningful games, rich in atmosphere and engaging themes. I strongly believe in a sense of equality and respect around my table, and provide safety tools to help us all better enjoy our gaming moments. TTRPGs are all about a shared sense of creation and storytelling, where we empower each other around the table to create meaningful and emotional connections. I invite both players new to the hobby, as well as veterans, to come join me on some fun adventures! I specialize in the following games: Vaesen, Blade Runner, Lord of the Rings 5e, Shadowrun 3rd, Kult: Divinity Lost, Dragonbane, D&D 5E, as well as a host of others. I'm always happy to learn a new system for special requests! Find me here: https://linktr.ee/TheBleakseason

Character creation

Creating your character

Players will build characters together and with me through the Discord channel. The characters will have a season or two under their belts, though their adventures so far will not have taken them far from Bree. LotR is a game of travel and discovery, and we will see the characters' world slowly grow around them as they get drawn into an epic conflict. I will provide all required materials. I do not permit power-gaming or rules-lawyering in any of my games - you are welcome to enjoy those aspects of the games, but would likely be better served at a different table than mine. No hard feelings!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You need to be able to be heard and to hear clearly. Cameras are preferred but optional. The ability to run Discord and Owlbear, a browser-based VTT, are necessary. Think about your character, and build someone fun, with goals, aspirations, but also flaws and fears. The more you put into your character, the more you'll get out of the game! Having a read of the rule book is important, but mostly for world concepts and clans. The rules we can work on together. I also provide cheat-sheets for the rules.

What Bleakseason (Folk & Myth/VtM Montreal) brings to the table

I use music and a simple-to-use browser-based VTT as needed; I provide character tokens and portraits, all the rule books we'll need, online character sheets & rules cheat sheets. I have a big collection of amazing animated maps for interesting locales, and use a lot of photos for locations and mood. My guiding principle is "rules are a suggestion", and am always happy to go by the rule of cool, or help you build the character you want.

Safety

How Bleakseason (Folk & Myth/VtM Montreal) creates a safe table

All safety documents will be provided ahead of time, and discussed in Discord. We'll make characters together, and build links between them. Players can expect RP-heavy games, where the characters and their links to the story matter more than plot. NOTE: I do not tolerate any aggressive or threatening behavior, nor do I allow racist, sexist or x-phobic talk at the table. First and foremost, give others the respect you wish to receive from them. We are here to have fun and play a game!
