About the adventure
Curse of Strahd is a tense, atmospheric adventure steeped in that classic gothic horror goodness. From werewolves and ghosts to the ever-present threat of vampirism, this campaign will deliver a rich, moody setting and a fast-moving narrative shaped by your choices. Barovia is a true sandbox: your decisions matter, your actions have consequences, and the story evolves around the characters you bring to the table. That said, Curse of Strahd is intentionally unforgiving. Barovia is a bleak and oppressive land. Characters may encounter dangers well beyond their current abilities, and survival often depends on caution, clever thinking, and teamwork rather than just brute force and fireballs. Resources are scarce (magic items even more-so) and victories will feel earned. If you enjoy high-stakes decision-making, emotional tension, and horror themes galore, this is the game for you! Additionally, the setting and module includes dark and disturbing themes common to most gothic horror; content warnings and safety tools will be used aplenty to ensure nothing ventures too far!

About me
Hello! My name is Michael and i’ve been playing TTRPGs since 2002 and have been DMing since 2018. I have 5 completed multi-year campaigns under my belt, 2 of which have been fully homebrew adventures written in parallel to the canon Pathfinder and D&D lore and mythos. I have hosted games for people of all ages across multiple platforms and have no issue in terms of flexibility for my players! In my professional life, I have worked in corporate management for 5 years at an arcade entertainment company, which has allowed me to further grow my experience with directing and organizing events or large groups of people. I have a healthy and friendly relationship with all of my players and am confident that any of them would vouch for my ability. I am also an enormous fan of Dimension 20, Critical Role, and Legends of Avantris. Living near LA has allowed me the opportunity to go to many events hosted by the cast and crew of these shows and experience the excitement of their games firsthand. It has also allowed me to gain insight into what some people may come into this hobby expecting from a DM. Naturally not everyone is a Matt Mercer or Brennan Lee Mulligan. I pride myself on being able to deliver a comprehensive and interactive storytelling experience that reminds players what TTRPG’s are really about: Fun!

Creating your character
Characters will begin at level 1 using Standard Array stats. We will be starting with Death House, so expect to be in the level 3 range when the sandbox starts proper!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
The game will be played via Roll20 and voice calls will be held via Discord! An invite to the Discord server will be sent to all participants.
What Michael (Mike) brings to the table
As a GM, I enjoy getting lost in the story just as much as you do! I am partial to silly character voices but have spent many long commutes from work practicing BBEG voices at length. I am no professional voice actor by any definition, however I have done quite a bit of foley so expect the unexpected! In terms of setting, I do employ the use of Youtube and Spotify playlists for ambiance. Absolutely no AI music of any sort, just a large assortment of instrumentals that I flip between to set the mood. I would actually be excited to hear if you recognize a few of the background tracks so please let me know! Lastly, for the most part I stick to Rules as Written to keep the game within a familiar foundation. There are moments when Rule of Cool will win out (especially if an action or event that a player wants to initiate falls outside the purview of the game mechanics), though I aim to keep these moments rare as to preserve the moments as truly special.
Homebrew rules
I will list out the Homebrew rules that I plan on having here: - Drinking a potion is a bonus action - Natural 20 on a death save brings you back up at 1HP - Natural 1 on a death save is 2 failed death saves - No restrictions on drawing weapons or handedness - Flanking adds +1 to hit rather than advantage and stacks +1/creature

Safety
How Michael (Mike) creates a safe table
First and foremost, X, N and O's will be present and encouraged to be used via private message. If you choose to have video present as well, then an X hand sign OR red card of your choosing will also be a clear sign to myself. I will also be sending a link to a Lines and Veils document before the session 0 so that I know if there is any content that players would not like to be present in the campaign. Open Door is also a safety tool that will be in place during the game. Please feel free to step away at any point to take a break for your own mental health or to simply stretch and breathe. I will check in with all players after the session ends as well to ensure that nothing is crossing any boundaries. As the GM I am responsible for everyone's safety and well-being during play. I take this role very seriously and will not shy away from my responsibility in this space.
