About the adventure

Just 10 years since the end of the Dominion War, the United Federation of Planets is rocked by another sudden shift in the balance of power. The Romulan Empire has discovered that Starfleet finally developed a working prototype of of a cloaking device, breaking the Algeron Accords. In response, they attacked the Starfleet research facility in an attempt to destroy the cloaking technology. They failed. Now conflicts have broken out all along the Neutral Zone, and the Federation lurches towards total war against the Romulans. Old alliances are being broken, new ones are being forged. The galaxy's major powers are being forced to adapt to a new paradigm. In the middle of all this, you are a Starfleet officer with a mission to defend Federation lives and values. Missions can include: - Taking strategic objectives - Going undercover and collecting vital intel - Making and breaking allegiances - Surviving behind enemy lines - Grappling with the fallout of war and the impact on civilian life - And all the usual strangeness of space exploration along the way! This campaign is heavily inspired by the later seasons of Deap Space 9 and other war themed seasons of Star Trek.

About me

Over a decade ago, I began my journey as a D&D game master in 3.5e. Today, I live to tell stories and create shared memories. I run games in a variety of systems, including Star Trek Adventures, D&D 5e, Spire, Heart, Tales of Xadia, Mouse Guard, and more! The more games I run, the more I thrive on emergent stories that lift up player expression. I run games that support improvisation and encourage player authorship. I bring players into worlds that they can truly change and make a difference in. Start your adventure with me today and follow me into worlds that come to life through your character. Be someone new, be someone old, or just be yourself.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will use the standard character creation rules from the Star Trek Adventures 2e core rulebook. Character concepts will be discussed as a group during session 0 to make sure we're happy with the crew dynamic. Generally speaking, all species are possible! The campaign take place in the year 2385 (after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis), but we can work together to find a place for characters from other eras as well.

The current party

This table is part of a living campaign, where multiple groups all exist in a shared universe. The consequences from one table can spill over into the other's story. Likewise, players from different tables will be encouraged to share notes, warnings, or coordinate to execute plans that can change future of the galaxy. The USS Oberon's Main character are: - a Captain - An XO + Tactical Officer - Operations Manager - Intelligence Agent Currently, the following roles are available on the USS Oberon: - Chief Medical Officer - Flight Controller/Helmsman - Science Officer - Chief of Security - ... and more! We can work together to invent a role that fits both you and the current party.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To play, you will need: - An account of forge-vtt.com (free) - A discord account - A microphone on your computers - A webcam is optional but recommended!

What Alex brings to the table

I run technical games that aim to let the dice tell the story. I like to use all the rules when I can and empower players to use game mechanics to create organic stories. We will use the tactical campaign rules from the Federation-Klingon War campaign book. I have written new tables of assets and points of interests specifically for the war against the Romluans in 2385.

Safety

How Alex creates a safe table

Star Trek explores a wide variety of real world issues using science fiction to build a metaphor. Some missions may include some of the listed content warnings, and others will not. Please message me if you have any specific concerns. To assist in moderating the game's content and to make sure everyone is having fun, the following content safety tools will be used. BEFORE WE PLAY: During session 0, we will set up basic lines and veils. Please message me ahead of time if you have any questions about my content warnings. But in general, my Lines & Veils setup is: Lines: No sexual assault. No child abuse. Veils: Sex, Torture can be referenced in vague terms and never described in detail. It can happen off camera or fade to black if necessary. DURING PLAY: X, N, and O cards will be available via the Foundry VTT or Discord chat. You will always be able to pause play to keep the game safe and fun, no questions asked!
