About the adventure
Give your partner the gift they really want: more D&D! This Valentine's Day themed one-shot will be a fun and memorable way to spend the holiday for couples looking mix up the usual dinner date night with something dicey... While on your exotic destination honeymoon, strange things begin to happen. Can you and your partner (and those lovely couples you met at the hibachi table for dinner) navigate the chaos and escape unscathed? Will the power of love guide you true? Find out when you play Love at First Smite! This is an original adventure I've written that includes a heavy emphasis on roleplaying/social encounters, some minor exploration and puzzle-solving, and a quick tactical combat. It is planned for 4-6 characters of level 3 in the DnD 5e system. While it is not required, it is highly recommended that players sign-up with their real life partners. All in-game characters will be partners accordingly, so if you sign up as a single person, you'll be paired up with another (or be paired with an NPC if we have an odd number). There will be couple-themed mechanics at the table, but I encourage you to do fun things like make your partner's character for each other, or collaborate on your backstories. Are your characters childhood sweethearts? Reluctant political marriage participants? Or maybe you woke up with a headache, rings on your fingers, and matching tattoos. It's up to you, so have fun with it! I am a LGBT+ Friendly DM and this table and adventure will be the same. Please only join us if you are happy to play with people as they are. ❤️🏳️🌈

Hi all, I'm Brian. With years of experience running both online and in-person campaigns, I bring a warm, welcoming table and a passion for crafting unforgettable adventures. My games blend rich storytelling, vibrant worlds, and character-driven narratives to ensure every session feels like a meaningful step in a larger saga. Creating your character
Create a level 3 character using the DnD Beyond 5e system (either 2014 or 2024 rule set is fine), using 27 point-buy. If you're new and need assistance making your character, I'm happy to help via Discord before the one-shot begins.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will need to have a free account for Discord, which we will use for video chat during sessions, out-of-character comments and questions during and after the session, and sharing game notes and such. We'll use Foundry VTT for battle maps and exploration, but no account is needed for that, as I'll run my own server and you'll just join with a custom web address. Finally, you're welcome to use any character sheet you'd like, but if you'd like access to my DnDBeyond resources, you'll need to make a free account and join one of my campaigns there. Please send me your character art ASAP so I can try to have tokens ready before we meet.
What Brian B. brings to the table
I will provide a holistic DnD experience. That includes full role play as the NPCs, vibrant descriptions of the environment, ambient sounds and music to set the tone, premium maps and art, and a flexible arbitration style that keeps the game moving and fun! Players will have access to my campaign groups in DnDBeyond which will give you access to nearly all character creation options on that site. I will provide a Foundry VTT server that utilizes premium assets from several Patreons.
Homebrew rules
Any homebrewed rules I use will almost always favor the players and lend to the power fantasy. This includes things like drinking potions as a bonus action instead of an action and avoiding crits that deal less damage than regular hits.

How Brian B. creates a safe table
Though this is a brief one-shot, the first part of the session will include a conversation to set expectations for the game experience. This includes establishing limits to the themes that'll appear in the game and establishing what we want out of the experience. We will have a system in place for communicating if something in the game is approaching those limits so we can steer clear and keep the game enjoyable for everyone.
