About the adventure
As you lie there, bleeding and dazed in the sand, the chaos around you seems to slow down. The blazing sun blinds your eyes, silhouetting the ragged figure that now raises its spear for the final blow. All you can see are those hollow eyes, looming out of the canine skull that is the mummy's head, rags draped around it. *"Get up,"* says the whisper in your head. And then, the mummy's head explodes. A magical blast sends the ragged thing collapsing down to the red sand, and rocks you to your senses. "Get up! Come on! We have to go!" The sorcerer reaches down her hand to pull you to your feet. It hurts to move, but you grab her wrist and struggle upright. The red sands drink your blood. You hate when the red sand drinks your blood. You're going to have to walk it off. In the distance, an army of the dead spills forth from the pyramids, marching due north. You head west—as fast as you can. The people in town have to know what happened here. The fort in the other direction will have to fend for itself. Sands of Doom is an adventure for players who want to feel the consequences of their decisions. In this crisis, things will happen with or without you; the final stage is set based on which threads you pursued and which dominoes you left to fall where they may. You can't save everyone or do everything—from levels 2 through 11, you can only do your best and hope by the end it will be enough. About me
Ladies, gentlemen, and friends from beyond the binary—well met, and a pleasure to meet indeed! As you step inside, do please leave your boots at the door. All settled in? Then come, and picture with me the following… A group of four, clad in the colors of their order and armed with weapons of the Old World. They tread with caution through the decrepit remains of a once-proud public library—best to be wary of the new librarians. Or instead, imagine this—a devil-horned man and an angel-winged woman ready their suppressed handguns, stack up on either side of a door, and nod beneath the flickering fluorescent light. The point of no return is nigh—if the gods won’t act, they’ll handle it themselves. Or picture yet again—pandemonium! The lich-king has won, and skeleton warriors run amok in the streets! There’s no stopping them now—how will you survive? These unique worlds and more await at my table. Players new and experienced alike are welcome—the only requirement is a good attitude!

What Carson | Fabled Folklore Gaming brings to the table
The magic ✨, including beautiful battle maps, music and soundscapes, interesting NPCs, and more. I also have the materials on D&D Beyond for making characters with official content, as well as a Google Drive folder full of official references and curated third-party publications for the homebrew aficionados.
Homebrew rules
My house rules are generally modest and all targeted at pain points I've identified in D&D5e after running over a thousand game sessions. I use some simple optional rules from the Dungeon Master's Guide to streamline the game, a small number of spell tweaks, and a change to the exhaustion mechanic that encourages players to proactively help one another stay standing in combat rather than engage in "yo-yo healing".

How Carson | Fabled Folklore Gaming creates a safe table
As written, Sands of Doom contains themes that some players may find unpleasant. The society it depicts is a flawed one—a refuge for the persecuted, but one that deeply distrusts outsiders. Additionally, some background events to the setting contain mentions of child death and mass death, but they do not happen in the foreground. A major part of this campaign's session zero will involve discussion about how we want to handle such story elements. I use lines and veils to maintain any other boundaries and do temperature checks when the story wades close to those lines. Additionally, any player-versus-player actions require the consent of the affected player(s) at the table before the characters can pursue those actions.
