About the adventure

For years, the evil Cult of the Dragon has devoted itself to creating undead dragons in a vain attempt to fulfill an ancient prophecy. However, the cultists were misguided. They misunderstood. But now, under new leadership, the cult believes that the prophecy does not speak of undead dragons, but of a dragon empire that's been extinct for 25,000 years. Tiamat, the queen of evil dragons, has languished in the Nine Hells for millennia. The cult believes that the time of her return is at hand. The cult has a new face and a new mission. It seeks to free Tiamat from the Nine Hells and bring her into the Forgotten Realms. To accomplish its goal, the cult needs five ancient dragon masks and the support of evil dragons everywhere. The cult leaders—each one a "dragon whisperer"—have reached out to the evil dragons of the Sword Coast and earned their allegiance. Meanwhile, evil dragons in partnership with the cult seek to amass a treasure hoard worthy of their dark queen, not by plundering their own hoards (of course) but by stealing money from cities, caravans, good-aligned dragons, merchant ships, and other sources. Their ravenous hunt for treasure throws the Sword Coast into upheaval. Neverwinter, Waterdeep, Baldur's Gate—no city is safe from their depredations. The situation is dire. However, the Sword Coast is far from defenseless. Powerful factions are ready to rise up and put an end to the tyranny of dragons. Adventurers throughout the Realms must join forces to face Tiamat, destroy the Cult of the Dragon, and prevent the rise of a new dragon empire. The Harpers have since shared their intelligence with the remaining factions. To combat the Cult of the Dragon, Lord Dagult Neverember of Neverwinter proposes that adventurers representing each of the five factions be sent north to investigate—and to report back with haste. In your hands, the future lies.

About me

What goes into the square hole? That's right, a Fireball! The name's PrAyNsPrAy and rolling expensive math rocks is the game. PrAy for short, I've been a DM for a over 9 years, and a enjoyer of RPGs since I could pick up a controller. DM wise, I tailor the campaign to the parties interests and construct narratives for their characters that fully immerse the player, perhaps leading to an early mid life crisis. 1. Roleplay - It is heavily encouraged, be it a quirky accent or fluctuation of the voice, as it shows effort and willingness to participate in group efforts. It cements the character in the world and promotes scenes that we all will cherish, be it serious dialogue with the antagonist over their evil plans or small talk by the campfire during a long rest. This is a hobby and cringey voice acting is to be expected, myself included, but it makes it that much more personable. 2. Attendance - Player's should arrive 5-10 minutes early of the established hours as to start on time. Life is chaotic so complications are common. I ask, if an event were to occur that would cut into session time or results in an absence, that you confront me privately an hour before session. If one player is absent in the session, and all players consent, then session may continue pending my approval. If the session planned has an encounter, be it aforementioned combat or roleplay, and I believe that all players should be present, then I reserve the right to delay the session. If two or more players are missing, I will most likely delay session unless downtime can be reasonably made (Such as shopping, information gathering, crafting, etc...) A 5-15 minute intermission is always available to be called at any time in the session, usually about halfway or before an upcoming combat encounter. 3. Metagaming - Character progression in the pinnacle of Dungeons and Dragons, so temper expectations that your characters aren't perfect, and that failure can be just as fulfilling. I do add a personal flare to parts of the campaign as to make it fresh and keep players on their toes. I am not perfect, so if you catch me making a mistake with a particular mechanic or encounter, reach out to me privately. I will error correct or retcon if need be but spoilers and cheaters are not welcomed at my table. 4. Etiquette - We're all here to have a good time and enjoy ourselves in this hobby. A level of cooperation and compliance is required for the health of a party. Keep this in mind at character creation as no amount of "my character would..." will be accepted if it causes needless inner party conflict. Character conflict is kept in mind for campaign events, so if reasonable conflict occurs, please conduct yourselves reasonably. I intend to a reasonable DM, so if I make a ruling in session, to please respect it and reach out to me for concerns after. I have a zero tolerance for inflammatory and or hateful language. Malicious individuals and bad actors will be swiftly evicted from the group. My House rulings : 💥 Crunchy Crits - Player Character's base attack rolls deal their maximum damage and any additional dice are then rolled to be added to the total. 😇 Hero's Rounding - Damage that would be halved are made in the favor of player characters. 💉 Potions - All potions are a Bonus Action. A Heal Potion can instead be used as an Action to heal its maximum value. ☠ Death Saves - These are rolled privately to the DM, as to build suspense and teamwork, and players are asked to keep their involvement to a minimum until brought back. 🧰 Passive Skills - If the passive skill check (Skill + 10) is 5 higher than the DC, it it considered an automatic success and no roll is needed. Having advantage or disadvantage warrants a +5 or -5 respectfully to the passive check. ❗ Inspiration - Instead of being awarded on a character to character basis, it is instead a liquid resources shared with the entire party. I tend to be fairly lenient with awarding these with players the show a lot of effort. Being particularly good at roleplay, making elaborate memes about previous or upcoming encounters, or general art highlighting key moments. 💡 Recap - At the start of each session, a "recap" will be called. Players are welcome to give an overview of the previous session's events. If a satisfactory summary is given, detailing key narrative elements, I award a point of inspiration. On a session by session basis, I will award at least one point, scaling up to how ever many key details I feel is warranted. 😰 Drop Tanking - Creatures can regain consciousness from the dying state a number of times equal to their CON modifier, resetting after a Long Rest. Instances that exceed this total will be given 1 point of Exhaustion. I pride myself in creating a wholistic experiences that can be remembered and fawned back to in the future. And now all I need is you, come and join me wont you?

Character creation

Creating your character

Players start at level 1 thought am warm to rebalancing the first few encounters to allow a level 3 start. Character creation will be done on Roll20 with specific handouts and sheets given to each player. A Session 0 will be first hosted to give a chance for Players to interact and set expectations. Working out party composition both mechanically and socially.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Roll20 and Discord accounts are required. Familiarity with these programs and dnd 5e are preferred but not mandatary. During Session 0, any questions of the aforementioned topics will be answered as well as in private if extra attention is needed. Open Door policy so DM are always available.

What PrAyNsPrAy brings to the table

Roll20 premium for dynamic lighting and module for both modules in Tyranny of Dragons with all of its respective materials fully integrated. I will create and maintain a custom Discord, tailoring it to the party's needs and wants. A library of ambient music to fit specific encounters for added immersion. And commissioning custom artwork of key moments or the party as a whole is more than a certainty.

As a compromise I opt to giving a feat at level one. 🧙‍♂️ Spell Changes : Silvery Barbs changed. Command is now a Charm effect.

How PrAyNsPrAy creates a safe table

Meta : Roll20 will be the platform that the majority of the game is played on, using a fully integrated module with battle maps and handouts. Discord will be an additional layer of organization for materials in and out of game content such as for voice chat and any additional content the roll20 does not provide. During Session 0, any questions as to how to use these platforms will be answered, and newer players I will meet in private for character creation or for further questioning if need be. Feedback for additional materials or accommodations are more than welcomed. The Tyranny of Dragons campaign is a story that spans two modules, Hoard of the Dragon Queen and Rise of Tiamat, reaching level 15+. It follow the nefarious under dealings of a secret faction known as the Cult of the Dragons and their recent string of reaches for power in Faerûn. An inquisitive mind and stark interest in these activities are recommended as plot progression is predicated at uncovering the cults machinations and missions for factions to assist in these warring times. Expectations : Tyranny of Dragons is a more sandbox style campaign that gives the players a lot of freedom of choice with how they wish to proceed in the events of the story, permitting travel across the Sword Coast and visiting key locals throughout the events of the campaign. A 5-15 minute intermission is always available to be called at any time in the session, usually about halfway or before an upcoming combat encounter. 3. Metagaming - At Session 0, each character and their backstories will be made clear. This should kept in mind while playing, as I do reward creative problem solving, but it is only as satisfying as how in character it's made. Character progression in the pinnacle of Dungeons and Dragons, so temper expectations that your characters aren't perfect, and that failure can be just as fulfilling. Instances that exceed this total will be given 1 point of Exhaustion. 📚 Character Creation - Stats can be Point-buy, Standard Array, or 4d6-drop lowest. Two arrays can be rolled in this manner, rerolling the array if its total sum is less than 72, but I must be present for the rolls. All official 5e materials are legal with a few exceptions. Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica, Eberron: Rising from the Last War, Astral Adventurer's Guide, and Unearthed Arcana all need my approval.
