Meet the Game Master
About me
Call me Oginme, OG, or Cliff. I have been playing D&D since 1978 and ran my first homebrewed adventures two years later. I put the game aside for a couple of decades to focus on career and family. Then my son asked for a Dungeons and Dragons set for his birthday and asked me to create a campaign for him and his friends. I went on to DM for two additional groups who had been abandoned by their DMs and we went on to run campaigns lasting well over two years. A decision to leave a demanding and unrewarding job handed me an opportunity to take on running games and campaigns professionally. The term professional is not one I use lightly. I have read many books, listened to many live streams, and practiced at improv and writing to improve my skills. My constant stream of imagination and flight of fantasy are activated when DMing games of DnD. I continually work to improve my delivery, voicing, and improv skills. When not playing, planning, or creating for my games, I have a small herd of LaMancha dairy goats, plant an extensive garden, play guitar, read and listen to a whole lot of books, study a variety of subjects, and cook.

Creating your character
We will create characters together during Session 0, using the standard array. Please do come with a character concept and a brief (one page) background story of your character if you so desire. Pre-made characters will also be available to choose from.
Current party consists of a Tortle Cleric and a Halfling Sorcerer. Players will have free range to choose races and classes available from my compendiums, both 2024 and 2014. We will be using 2024 rules and NPCs will reflect this rule set. Additional sub-classes from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Bigby Presents Glory of the Giants are open to use. I am willing to consider home brew species or classes, but we will need to talk first and give me time to evaluate any home brewed options you may want.

Preparing for the session

What Oginme brings to the table
Note: We will use the 2024 Player's handbook as the main compendium for this campaign. Other compendiums from 2014 may be made available with consent from all players. Maps, dice rolls, character sheets, and handouts will be on Roll20. Voice and music/ambient sounds will be over Discord. There is a dedicated discord channel for the game which will include areas for out of session role play, general session notes, lore and setting knowledge, and announcements. I use custom maps for most encounters and settings. The move to a map is not a sign that things will devolve into combat. Instead, there will be things on the map for you to take note of and use to your advantage. These maps are also more immersive with detail and color to make things interesting and show terrain and objects with which you can interact or use. I do create a written summary of each session on both the Roll20 game forum and on Discord for your personal enjoyment and/or reference. A soundtrack accompanies each session to help with immersion and mood for the sessions. You will find plenty of handouts to help with visualization and your reference further on in the campaign. I also supply a variety of tokens for NPCs and adversaries which assist with identification during encounters. Along with that, my NPCs are my characters in the game. Important NPCs have their own values, goals and objectives and will usually act with their own self-interest in mind. Do not expect creatures to fight to the last, nor will they purposefully try to exterminate you without cause. Most will attempt to flee when over matched and will not pursue characters who flee if it goes against their objectives or nature.
Homebrew rules
Any adoption of homebrew rules will be discussed during session 0 and used with player consent. My only firm homebrew rule is that potions always heal full value unless taken during an encounter. When in initiative order, a potion can be taken using your action for full value or as a bonus action with a roll to determine the amount you heal.

How Oginme creates a safe table
The campaign will start with a session 0. My agenda for session 0 can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1rwMh_TVIuxLzBvFr1HP5XrfqExGsspfM7kOLQymIpRU/edit?usp=sharing My table rules can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/15PsoLeQihhUVv_SSBjIUSRBLYe9k4IjtZUp9qQId8QM/edit?usp=sharing I will make X, N, and O cards available during the game for players to react to any objectionable content within the game. These will be anonymous and will provide us with a chance to dial back any objectionable content or figure out how to make the situation more suitable for all the players. Following sessions, I will be available for debriefing on the content of the session. Where needed, we will discuss the direction and where the content needs to be adapted or changed. I have a separate channel in the Discord server for the players to acknowledge the actions of others (Stars) and add wishes for opportunities, content, and/or action they would like to see moving forward (Wishes). As a matter of service, I am usually available at most times to have a discussion on aspects of the game you find either troubling or would like to see more often.
