About the adventure
Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage is an epic dungeon crawl that takes you through the largest dungeon in the history of the Forgotten Realms. Each level of the dungeon is as large and well-thought-out as any other dungeon in another published adventure book, and there are more than 20 levels of this one! Face off against horribly monstrous creatures, countermand the devious political plots of the dungeon's inhabitants, and work past outlandish puzzles and traps the likes of which you can't even imagine, all within the same dungeon. Why are you determined to pit yourself against the wild dangers of the Mad Mage's insane creation? How deep will you go before you inevitably have to retreat to the safety of Waterdeep above? Will you come out as wealthy as the likes of Durnan and Mirt, who first braved the dungeon so long ago? Or will you all die a horrible death as so many nameless others have since? This is your story to tell, so make it a good one. ========== Your FIRST session with me will be FREE. Creating your character
Standard 5E (2014) rules for character creation. The starting level is 5, and you can pick one uncommon magic item along with your starting gear. Reach out to me if you have any questions or requests. I'm pretty accommodating.
The party is currently level 5, and is made up of a Human Cleric, a Half-Elf Wizard, and a Gnome Bard, all built using the 2014 Legacy 5E rules.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need to join my Discord server and download the trial copy of Fantasy Grounds Unity. All sessions take place in Discord & FGU.
What Joshua brings to the table
My DMing style has a strong focus on telling a dramatic story that emphasizes detailed characters who go on an emotional journey. That being said, I'm also a fan of intense, tactical combat, and like to use it where necessary to ratchet up the tension. I put a great deal of effort into making sure characters in my world feel real, fights are exciting, and exploration yields rewards. I occasionally use character voices and ambient music to help with worldbuilding.
Homebrew rules
I don't use homebrew rules in this game. Everything tends to be by the book, except when the "Rule of Cool" sometimes mandates otherwise.

How Joshua creates a safe table
Player safety is always at the forefront of my mind when I prepare and run sessions. I've included a list of potential content warnings you may want to be aware of for this game. If any of those are a problem for you, let me know, and I'll change them. Standard X, N, and O cards are always welcome to be used if you are in crisis during a session, and I will always make room for an aftercare discussion should a session prove to be stressful. If you have any concerns about safety whatsoever, please feel free to bring them up with the group or in private with me.
