About the adventure
In the shadow of the Eternal Flame, the Obsidian Empire stands as a beacon of hope for civilization. Living in an era of darkness, the world beyond the Empire’s walls has become a treacherous expanse, teeming with beasts that defy nature. These horrors are born of the Void—a mysterious evil force that seeps into the land, corrupting all it touches. Into this world of ash and shadow, 3-6 adventurers are drawn, each carrying secrets of their past and a destiny intertwined with the fate of Obsidara. This long-term campaign will take players on a harrowing journey through the Thorned Wastes, the Scorchwind Barrens, and the Dark Forest, as they uncover the truth behind the Void. Along the way, they will face monstrous beasts, navigate political intrigue, and confront the darkest corners of their own souls. The fate of Obsidara—and perhaps the world itself—rests in their hands. Will they uncover the secrets of the Void and sever its hold on their world, or will they succumb to the darkness that threatens to consume everything they hold dear? The answers lie in the echoes of the Void, and the choices they make will shape the future of Obsidara forever.

About me
Hello friends! I’ve been a Game Master for smaller games of 4-6 players for about 5 years. My favorite aspect of being a GM is world-building and character creation. Thus, I love homebrew content and homebrew worlds. The stories I tell are not just mine, they are told by the players as well. If you would love an action-packed fantasy adventure, with intricate roleplay opportunities, and a story that connects to your character’s backstory, I’m the Game Master for you!

Creating your character
All ancestries and classes are allowed to be played. We will be using dndBeyond to create character sheets, starting at level 1. In addition to starting equipment, you’ll get any basic (nonmagical) armor of your choice, an uncommon magic item, and 50 gp. We'll be using 2024 D&D rules! Rolling for Stats: Using dndbeyond.com you will utilize the group rolling system. Select 3 groups and roll each one on the site. Once you have rolled out all your stats, pick one and assign each number to an ability. If you roll 3 sets that have multiple 7's, 8's or 9's, I'll let you roll one more time for a total of 4 sets. For HP, we'll be doing Fixed/Average HP. All character sheets must be created on dndBeyond. If you don’t have access to content for a specific class or ancestry, once you sign up and get added to my server I’ll send you a “campaign” link that will share my paid content with you. This way I can see your characters, and if I need to give you homebrew magic items or homebrew races, it will be much easier to set things up.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
At the start of our first session, please make sure you've read the information document and bring any ideas for your character backstory. Session 0 will include a vibe check between players, character building and backstory connecting. If you are confused or need help, reach out to me before the game and I'd be happy to assist! We will be using dndBeyond, Roll20, and Discord. If you need help making these accounts or have trouble finding the links, you can always message me here.
What Caralight brings to the table
I will be bringing detailed VTT maps for both battles and general roleplaying. I like to give a good idea to my players for what they’re able to interact with (without taking several minutes describing the whole scene for roleplay). I will also have rounded NPCs for your characters to interact with, and possibly fight!
Homebrew rules
We will be doing Flanking rules for advantage. Critical hits become "crunchy" and will roll once and deal max damage with the second set of dice.

Safety
How Caralight creates a safe table
We will be using the Luxton Technique to determine lines and veils, and use X, N, and O cards throughout when we get into more difficult or harsh roleplay scenes. My games are centered around providing a safe and fun environment, so I take triggers and content warnings seriously. In general, the Grimdark genre intends to fill players with a sense of hopelessness. The story itself has spirits and death intertwined into the plot. If you are interested in playing but have issues with some of these content warnings, feel free to message me with any questions or concerns before signing up.
