About the adventure

The port settlement of Groghold clings to the edge of the sea, its docks stretching into waters that shimmer beneath the peaks of Merland’s Stars. Originally funded and staffed by Merland’s Stars, the settlement was built using adventurers; souls seeking fortune, purpose, or escape. Many of whom stayed, eventually becoming the lords and leaders of the town. Their vision and tenacity have shaped Groghold into a hub of commerce and adventure, a place where trade and travelers converge, and the world’s eyes turn toward the island it occupies. Now, a new group of adventurers arrives, summoned by letter, rumor, or curiosity, to claim what a fallen friend has left behind. They find no treasure hoard, but a worn-down tavern wedged between a forge and a chapel, its sign faded and windows clouded by dust. Beneath the decay, however, lie warmth, stories, and the ghost of a promise left unfinished. As the tavern’s new stewards, the adventurers must decide whether to rebuild, sell, or let it fade. Running the inn quickly becomes more than a task; it reflects who they are, what they’ve lost, and how they wish to shape the life of Groghold itself. Each patron, supplier, and passerby carries secrets, rumors, and opportunities, weaving the tavern into the ever-turning pulse of the settlement. Groghold thrives and grows around them. Miners whisper of strange lights deep below the island, clergy murmur that the stars have shifted, and rival merchants claim the previous owner struck a deal better left undisturbed. The legacy of their fallen friend lingers in stone, in ale, and in story. As days turn to nights and the taproom fills with laughter, conflict, and secrets, the adventurers begin to uncover why they were brought together. The tavern may yet become more than a resting place for wanderers, it may become the heart of a story waiting to be written anew, at the very center of Groghold’s rise.

About me

Howdy, I’m Alexander! I’ve been telling stories my whole life even starting as a kid making up tales for my family, and later finding one of my favorite storytelling mediums in Dungeons & Dragons. I’ve been a Dungeon Master for almost 8 years now. Over that time, I’ve guided players through official modules, but my proudest project has been building my own living world: The Realms of Yether. Yether is a shared setting where multiple campaigns take place on the same continent, and the choices of one group can ripple out to affect others. Some campaigns have been running for over four years, and as of late 2025, Yether is finally stepping out of its prologue stage and entering Act 1. Watching the world grow alongside the players has been an unforgettable experience. Outside of D&D, I recently graduated from college and am now pursuing a teaching certificate in my state. I love combining my passion for storytelling with education, finding ways to inspire creativity and curiosity in others. D&D has become my biggest passion and creative outlet, and I’m always excited to share adventures, challenges, and laughs with new players. Whether you’re brand new or experienced, I want to create memorable stories that feel personal, epic, and fun. ==================================================== 🎟️ The Yether Coupon Tasks Help the Realms grow and earn rewards while doing it! These tasks are simple ways to share the world of Yether with others, and every completed task earns you discounted or free sessions. Task of Friendship Bring a friend to join one of my campaigns for 3 paid sessions and you’ll earn 1 free session for yourself. Task of Bonds Convince a family member, partner, or spouse to play. If they stay for 3 paid sessions, you’ll get 2 free sessions or a 20% discount on your next 5 sessions ($15 -> $3). Task of the Explorer Share the Realms of Yether on social media (Discord, Instagram, Tiktok, etc.) with a short post or clip and tag me, get $5 off your next session.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players Should Have: • Mic • Computer with Internet • Roll20 Account • Discord Account Session 0s are free, and if you check my profile, I also offer discounts for certain Tasks listed on my Profile. Welcome to the Hearth of Groghold You’re about to step into the Heart of Groghold, a rising settlement built on salt, stone, and stubborn hope. Here, legacy lingers longer than memory, and every nail hammered into wood carries the echo of a story unfinished. You and your companions have inherited a tavern—an inheritance born not of gold, but of connection. Together, you’ll decide what to make of it: a business, a home, or perhaps a monument to what once was. But Groghold is not a place that welcomes passivity. The island tests all who come to its shores. Beneath its charm lie shifting loyalties, hidden ruins, and a heartbeat that seems to pulse from the land itself. Will you build something lasting or let the island claim another dream? Getting Started To prepare, you’ll need to message me in order to join both of our game spaces: Please ensure you have access to both before our first session. Bring your curiosity, your voice, and your willingness to connect—with each other, and with the settlement that may yet become your home. This campaign is slower, softer, and more personal. It’s not about grand conquests or celestial omens, but about what remains when the stars have passed overhead. About the World This campaign takes place within the Living World of the Realms of Yether. A Living World means that every story told, every choice made, and every soul remembered exists within the same universe as others who have come before. You may hear whispers of past heroes from other campaigns, or feel the ripples of choices made far beyond Groghold’s shore. The tavern may be small but its story is not. Welcome home to Groghold Hearth, where community is forged, secrets simmer, and every heart beats to the rhythm of something greater.

What Alexander of Yether (DM Ultra) brings to the table

I enjoy giving characters individual voices. Through discord bot I am able to use music and ambiance. I enjoy letting players come up with creative situations and solutions. I have been working on the Realms of Yether for the past 10 or so years, originating as an idea before I knew about dnd and now it is a world that has been played in for the past 6 years by different players in different campaigns.

Homebrew rules

Be Nice * just general decency General Table Rules Do not argue at the table about rules. DM has the final say. If you disagree with a ruling, please bring it up after the game. Roleplay over roll play. There is generally, unless otherwise mentioned (one-shots could be an example), not much of a reason to Min-Max a character. Min-Maxed characters GENERALLY disrupt the balance of the game. Making it hard to feel relevant for other players at the table. Please be on time. If you are running behind, or cannot make a session, please tell the group - or at the very least, the DM. Be cognizant of when it is your turn. We all understand that some characters may have a lot of options, but be engaged and be ready when your turn comes up. Be respectful of each other's opportunity to roleplay. If someone is actively engaged in roleplay, be courteous and respectful to their time. This list is not all encompassing and is a mere short BASIC list of guidelines. It may be expanded on by each individual DM. Map Realism Unless the Dungeon Master of the campaign who made the map says otherwise, everything on a combat map is in its location taking up space or capable of utilization. There may be smaller details that a DM may disclose should a player notice it with Perception. Martial Checks When in combat you have a free action that you can use once on your turn to attempt to identify an ability, feature, potential action, or surrounding phenomena that is relating to your current combat encounter that is tied to an enemy or the environment. The basic skill used for this check is Insight, but other skills are allowed based on the situation. (EX. using Arcana when fighting a mage type enemy).

Safety

How Alexander of Yether (DM Ultra) creates a safe table

In the free session 0 we will go over what to expect, what to do if something you do not wish to experience is occurring and I wasn't made aware of it (how to whisper me), how hard topics will be handled or if anyone tries to make any hard topics an issue (sexual or gruesome violence), and lastly finding out if you have anything that needs to be addressed. If hard topics such as rape or torture are brought up, the most detail that we would go into is 'fade to black.' I also consider a line making other players do things. This cannot be done in game. You cannot persuade someone to kill themselves as an example. After about 2-3 hours I tend to encourage a short break. I would note that the X,N,O system is used and can be messaged to me or in the roll20 chat. Feel free to bring up anything you think or feel about what is going on in order to make things clear. Tell me and I will listen to you. I always want to improve the game so just let me know.
