About the adventure

Welcome to Ptolus — the City by the Spire. A towering metropolis built atop forgotten catacombs, ancient sins, and secrets that refuse to stay buried. In this campaign, shadowy urban intrigue and classic dungeon delving are seamlessly intertwined. One week you may be unraveling cult activity in candlelit back alleys and noble courts; the next, descending into long-sealed ruins where history still bleeds into the present. Ptolus is a city of factions, power struggles, and moral ambiguity. No choice is ever simple, and heroism is rarely rewarded cleanly. Here, legends are not born from prophecy or destiny, but from necessity — because someone has to step forward when the city teeters on the brink. This table is deeply story-driven, with a strong focus on roleplay, character agency, and collaborative worldbuilding. You will meet layered NPCs with their own ambitions and flaws, uncover plots that grow more dangerous the deeper you dig, and experience moments of levity, camaraderie, and hard-won triumph amid the chaos. The world responds to your decisions — alliances shift, enemies adapt, and the city remembers what you do. Whether you thrive on tactical combat, immersive storytelling, political intrigue, or uncovering hidden lore, Ptolus offers all of it in a living, breathing setting that rewards curiosity and bold choices. If you enjoy meaningful character growth, shared narrative ownership, and a campaign where your actions genuinely matter, then heed the call. The Spire watches. The city waits. Will you answer?

About me

I’m Vicki, and I’ve been a Dungeon Master for over 15 years — and a D&D player for even longer! My DM journey began in the comic book shop my husband and I owned, where I hosted both official Wizards of the Coast events and homegrown campaigns. When the shop closed in 2010, I couldn’t let the adventure end — so I kept running games for friends and local groups, keeping the stories alive. I recently moved to Saint Louis and am now excited to find (or form!) a new adventuring party to share new tales and laughter with. Outside of D&D, I live with my husband and our two dogs, and I love cheering on my nephews at soccer and baseball games. I’m also close with my family and enjoy spending time supporting my parents whenever I can. By day, I work full-time as an SAP Systems Analyst, supporting enterprise software — so yes, technology plays a big role in my life (and it tends to sneak into my games, too!). I’m looking forward to meeting fellow adventurers who love storytelling, creativity, and good company as much as I do. Let’s roll some dice and create something amazing together!

What Vicki brings to the table

This is a player-driven campaign first and foremost. I don’t believe in forcing the story down a single path — instead, you decide what matters, where you go, and what kind of heroes you become. Ptolus is packed with factions, secrets, ruins, and opportunities, and together we’ll choose which threads to pull. If the group wants political intrigue, dungeon expeditions, faction play, or something entirely unexpected, the campaign will grow in that direction. Your character’s backstory is not just flavor — it is fuel for the campaign. The more your character is tied to Ptolus, its people, and its history, the more personal and impactful the story becomes. Allies, rivals, unfinished business, and buried secrets from your past can and will surface in play. We’ll begin with an urban-focused adventure to establish the city, your connections, and the tone of the campaign. From there, the direction is entirely up to the group. The city opens outward into ancient ruins, hidden cults, political power struggles, and dangers far older than Ptolus itself — and you choose which doors to open. I place a strong emphasis on roleplay, meaningful choices, and letting consequences matter. While I may not deliver a wide range of character voices, I focus on clear motivations, strong personalities, and memorable interactions. Expect NPCs who feel distinct because of what they want, not just how they sound. On the tactical side, I excel at creating detailed, custom maps. Expect frequent use of hand-crafted battle maps and locations that support both cinematic combat and immersive exploration. If you’re looking for a collaborative table, a responsive world, and a campaign that adapts to your characters rather than the other way around, you’ll feel right at home here.

Safety

How Vicki creates a safe table

Before the game, everyone will fill out Monte Cook's RPG Consent Checklist. During session 0 I will cover what topics are out of bounds, with reminders as necessary. During the game, we will use Roll20's Safety Deck (green, yellow, red cards). The first 4-6 weeks I will check in after every session to see how things are going, then every 4-6 weeks after that.
