About the adventure

Tales of the Forgotten Ocean is an original campaign set in the homebrew land of Anora, a continent rich in diverse geography and untamable arcanic phenomena. But this story begins in a land that lies astray — cut off and secluded by the Southern Burstona Mountain Range. In the South West end of Anora, sits Saltmoth, untamed but not forgotten by the natural and divine magical forces that exude from every corner of the land. Those who reside here are considered lost souls, strange and outcast from society. But they may venture to consider themselves differently. They might say there is a quiet vibrance and mystique here, unseen by others. Some believe the land whispers in its own indecipherable language. But, whatever they may say, you have found yourself here for a very specific reason. You have traversed here from however far away to meet a friend — to say goodbye. For they recently wrote to you in a mysterious, elusive tone, describing a vague predicament in which they have very little time left. They want to spend it with family and friends. You walk a thin, poorly maintained road through the old forest. Ancient willow trees creek, groan, and speak their own tongue. This long-form campaign will be tailored to its players, meaning the story will differ based on your preferences and character choices. I will ensure that your character is an integral part of the story, that your backstory is fully integrated, and that your decisions matter. I will commission art for each character. We will have a session 0 to finalize descriptions. Afterward, I’ll send the details to the artist. There may be some time between session 0 and session 1. I plan to use that time to support you if you need it. My favorite aspect of TTRPGs is collaborative storytelling. I provide the world’s tapestry and connect everyone’s story threads. Ultimately, we all share this experience equally. The best D&D stories happen when I’m also kept on my toes, never knowing what might happen next. I’ll work with each of you to ensure you feel part of this world and the narrative.

About me

I'm a passionate Dungeon Master in my early 20s with a deep love for storytelling, worldbuilding, and immersive roleplay. I’ve dedicated myself to crafting unforgettable narratives, weaving intricate storylines that seamlessly intertwine with player backstories to create a truly personal and engaging experience. Beyond the game table, I’m a theatre actor. One of my favorite things about DMing is bringing characters to life with rich personalities, dynamic voices, and emotional depth. I’m also a cast member in a D&D podcast, which has promoted me to grow more as a DM and to create cinematic moments and thrilling rp opportunities! I believe that TTRPGS are at their best when every player feels empowered to explore their creativity. Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or new to the game, I strive to create a welcoming space where your choices drive the story forward, and your character's journey truly matters.

Character creation

Creating your character

You're welcome to use any material within the expanded works of 5e (including the Player's Handbook, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, etc.). If you would like to use material that is outside of official 5e rules, feel free to ask! This campaign will be using the 2014 version of 5e. If you would like to incorporate various 2024 rules that you are drawn to, feel free to ask, and we can negotiate! To determine your stats, you may roll or use point buy—it is up to your preference. When writing your character's backstory, don't feel as though you have to limit yourself! Some players derive more enjoyment from writing long and intricate backstories, while others prefer to write more concise ones—either approach is fine! With that said, you will get more out of this campaign if you at least have the following bases covered: - Where your character is from. How has this region shaped them? What have they had to do/become to survive this environment? - Characters that have influenced them. Are these characters still around? If so, in what ways do they continue to impact your character? - An event that motivated them to pursue adventuring/traveling. What does your character want? More world information will be available in the discord server (you will receive an invite upon joining the game). I will also be available and able to meet before the game starts if you have any questions about the setting. The starting level for this campaign is level three. We will be using the milestone system when leveling up. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You must have Discord, a microphone, and a ForgeVTT account (free to set up). If you have a webcam, you are welcome to use it, but it is completely optional. Otherwise, I am here to help make sure you are set up to succeed!

What Arthur brings to the table

Players can expect lively, immersive sessions featuring curated music from iconic games, movies, and TV shows, engaging social encounters, challenging combat, custom-designed battle maps, and more! For this game, your character will be professionally illustrated at no additional cost, providing a personalized experience. As you'll see from how I GM, I encourage diverse play styles and am generally lenient when choices enhance the game and story. If you invest effort in character creation, backstory, or roleplay, I'll match that effort fully. I believe I am best at collaboration, responding to your characters in ways that always give players more room to explore.

Safety

How Arthur creates a safe table

My first priority is ensuring players feel safe and comfortable. I will provide numerous spaces and methods of communication to ensure you feel heard and respected. After every session, I will be available to talk if anyone needs anything or would like to provide feedback. Furthermore, I will hold a session zero where we will discuss safety, bringing group awareness to everyone's boundaries and triggers. Additionally, there will be a feedback form (anonymity is an option) where people can submit concerns about the session. Otherwise, my door is always open (mostly via discord DMs) if you need me!
