About me

"As you step into the candle-lit tavern, your senses come alive. The smell of alcohol soaked wood. The echo of your footfalls on the stone floor. The slight temperature change. You want nothing more than something to clear the dust of the road from your throat. It takes a moment for your eyes to adjust, and as they do you see a man behind the bar, absently polishing a cup. He stops and motions you closer with his eyes." Hello. My name is Chris, but you can call me Cap. I am a DM/player with five years of experience in the 5e system. My favorite aspect of TTRPG is the collaborative story telling. While rolling tons of math rocks and battling monsters is amazing, being a part of an overall narrative that veers off into unexpected and surprising ways is pure chef's kiss. I pride myself on running a fun and welcoming table. Everyone from first timers to seasoned vets have seats with me and I am always available to my players for questions and comments. My price range per session, per player is between $15 and $20 for published modules and between $20 and $30 for complete homebrew, depending on the features you want. So, brave adventurer, if you would kindly speak to the tavern keeper. He is in desperate need of your talents.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will go over character creation during session 0. That being said, you will have access to my expansive compendium, including third party options, for species, subclasses, backgrounds and spells. You will roll your stats 3x and choose from those sets.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I use Discord and Roll20 for my games. Links will be sent upon sign up.

What MadCap brings to the table

Character voices, ambient music, custom maps/tokens and the Rule of Cool.

Homebrew rules

All of these are rules I have used in the past. None will be implemented unless discussed and agreed to by the group. 1. Flanking: When a creature and at least one of its allies are adjacent to an enemy and on opposite sides or corners of the enemy’s space, they flank that enemy, and each of them has advantage on melee attack rolls against that enemy. When in doubt about whether two creatures flank an enemy on a grid, trace an imaginary line between the centers of the creatures’ spaces. If the line passes through opposite sides or corners of the enemy’s space, the enemy is flanked. Enemies will benefit from flanking as well as adventurers. 2. Death Saves: Death saving throws will be whispered to me so that only myself and the player making the throw know the result. This adds a bit more urgency on your healers. 3. Exhaustion: If you are downed in combat you will have one level of exhaustion when combat concludes. Multiple downings will stack. I feel this raises the stakes in combat encounters. 4. Nat 20 on initiative grants advantage on your first attack. Nat 1 on initiative imposes disadvantage on your first attack. 5. Crit Rule: When scoring a Critical Hit, the lowest of the two damage rolls will be max damage along with the addition of the higher roll.

Safety

How MadCap creates a safe table

We will go over lines and veils and safety during session 0. My games have a built in break as close to the mid-session point as possible. I am available during this break, as well as any time in or out of session, to address any and all player concerns.
