An ancient evil stirs in the shadows—one whose name is spoken only in fearful whispers—and only a handful of adventurers stand between the kingdom and the rise of a godlike lich. This is a premium, professionally run Dungeons & Dragons campaign led by a Dungeon Master with over 35 years of experience, beginning in 1989 with the Rules Cyclopedia. Blending classic tabletop roots with modern, character-driven storytelling, every session is designed to provide memorable roleplay, tactical combat, meaningful choices, and cinematic adventures. Vhalstaug is a living homebrew world that has been continuously developed since 1994. Every city, kingdom, dungeon, faction, and historical event is interconnected, creating a setting that feels alive. Your decisions matter. The allies you make, the enemies you create, and the quests you complete leave lasting marks on the world, allowing your characters to become part of its history. Every player receives a personalized character arc woven directly into the campaign. Creating your character
Session Zero I believe every great campaign starts with a strong Session Zero. Rather than spending game night creating characters, Session Zero will be scheduled during the days leading up to the campaign whenever possible. If you join a few days before the first session, we'll use that time to meet, discuss your character concept, and create your character together using D&D Beyond. This helps ensure that everyone is ready to jump straight into the adventure when Session One begins. If you already have a character, we'll review it together to make sure it fits naturally into the world of Vhalstaug, the campaign's themes, and the rest of the party. During Session Zero we'll also discuss table expectations, playstyle, scheduling, safety tools, house rules, and answer any questions you may have. It's a chance for everyone to get to know one another, collaborate on character connections, and ensure we're all on the same page before the adventure begins. My goal is simple: when Session One starts, you're already invested in your character, connected to the world, and ready to begin an unforgettable adventure.

Preparing for the session
Platform & Table Expectations Platform: Roll20 will be our primary virtual tabletop. If the group prefers another platform, we're happy to discuss alternatives during Session Zero. Voice & Video: A microphone is required for all players. A webcam is optional but always appreciated, as it helps create a more engaging table experience. Dice: You're welcome to roll physical dice or use Roll20's integrated dice roller. If you choose to roll physical dice, we simply ask that everyone respects the honor system—no fudging rolls! The best stories often come from spectacular failures. Character Creation: Characters will be created using D&D Beyond before the campaign begins. I'll work with each player to ensure your character fits naturally into the world and has meaningful connections to the story. Streaming: I stream this game. If this campaign is streamed, every player must give their consent.

Safety at the Table My goal is to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable, respected, and able to enjoy the adventure. While Vhalstaug explores themes such as horror, mystery, violence, and moral conflict, the well-being of my players will always come before the game. If at any point something makes you uncomfortable, you never need to explain yourself in the moment. We have several simple ways to communicate during the game. Direct Message If you'd rather communicate privately, you can send me a direct message at any time. If something needs to change, we'll adjust the scene and continue without drawing unnecessary attention to the situation. Hand Signals (When Using a Webcam) If you're using a webcam, simple hand gestures provide a quick, silent way to communicate. 🟢 Thumbs Up – Everything is good. You're enjoying the scene and are comfortable continuing. 🟡 Flat Hand – Please slow down or check in. You're still okay, but you'd like the pacing or intensity adjusted. 🔴 Raised Hand – Stop the current scene immediately. We'll pause, make any necessary adjustments, and continue only when everyone is comfortable. X, N, & O System Players are also welcome to use the X, N, and O signals in chat or verbally at any time. ❌ X – Stop. The current content should end immediately or be skipped with no questions asked. ⚠️ N – Nudging a boundary. Please reduce the intensity, change direction, or fade to black. ⭕ O – Everything is okay. You're comfortable with the current scene and happy to continue. Safety tools are available to everyone, at any time, for any reason. There is never any expectation that you justify their use.
