About the adventure

Step into Barovia, a land shrouded in mist, fear, and the harsh control of the vampire lord Strahd von Zarovich. This campaign combines horror, tense combat, and dramatic storytelling as you uncover dark secrets hiding in every shadowed village and crumbling ruin. Whether you are a seasoned adventurer or new to D&D, this journey invites anyone seeking a gripping, character-driven experience. You will travel through a gothic world filled with tragic NPCs, haunted landscapes, and choices that shape the fate of the entire land. Exploration is key; hidden paths, cursed artifacts, and mysterious allies await those willing to dig deeper. Combat is both challenging and tactical, rewarding smart teamwork and bold choices. Along the way, you’ll unravel conspiracies, face nightmares, and discover what truly ties Barovia to its curse. My GM style emphasizes atmosphere, immersion, and memorable encounters. Expect rich roleplay, unique character voices, ambient music, and cinematic moments inspired by the Rule of Cool, while keeping combat sharp and rules clear for new players. I strive to create a gaming environment where everyone feels included, supported, and excited to be part of an ongoing story. If you’re ready for a campaign filled with danger, mystery, moral choices, and gothic adventure, Barovia is calling. Will you break the curse or become part of it?

About me

Greetings, fellow adventurers! My name is Draxter, and I am a long-standing fan and enjoyer of tabletop games. My favorite of them all and the one I have the most experience with is Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). I have years' worth of experience in the hobby and have spent most of that time GM-ing for my friends and local games stores. In fact, I have even partnered up with schools and universities and taught students to play and created games in that environment. Most of my experience as a GM comes with introducing and teaching new players. With that said, I have had several multi-year campaigns that have had satisfying conclusions. I firmly believe that if you were to choose my games, you would be left with nothing short of a memorable, life-changing experience through stories that can only be brilliantly told through the lens of D&D. I hope to see you at the table!

Character creation

Creating your character

This is a D&D 5e campaign. There will be a Session 0 that will occur before the first session starts. There, I will inform all players and assist them in creating their characters and having them fit into the overall narrative. Newer and inexperienced players are welcome! We will discuss things like backstories, stats, equipment, alignments, and party cohesion among many other things. Additionally, I will briefly discuss the contents of the campaign and what you might expect. We will be talking about themes, elements, and story ideas that people are comfortable with and not comfortable with. My job is to make all of your experiences as smooth, comfortable, and safe as possible. All players will be starting off at level 3, and we will be using a milestone/achievement system for levelling. Character creation should be done on D&D Beyond, and I will make sure to add all players to a campaign tab as well. There are no restrictions to any books or pieces of content that you would like to use. Session 0 will not contain the first session; however, if there is sufficient time, there will be opportunities for teambuilding exercises and small scenarios, and encounters that I will craft for the players in order to get familiar with each other's characters and how we work and play as a group. After Session 0, Session 1 will begin, where the campaign will officially take off. All character creation should be done and dealt with before then.

What Draxter brings to the table

As a GM, I focus on cinematic storytelling supported by immersive atmosphere. I use character voices and ambient music to set the mood, and I love giving players dramatic moments to shine. My combat tends to be fast, tactical, and meaningful, without dragging on. I follow the Rule of Cool whenever it makes the story better, but keep core rules consistent so everyone feels grounded and treated fairly. Players can expect a game full of roleplay, strong narrative stakes, impactful choices, and memorable character moments.

Homebrew rules

- Drinking a potion as a bonus action - Critical Hits may have other effects instead of just adding another damage die or simply more damage. - Downed characters only need to succeed once to get back up - Charisma and Social checks may be circumvented with good Role Play - The Rule of Cool above all!

Safety

How Draxter creates a safe table

Player safety and comfort are always top priorities at my table. Before the campaign begins, I run a Session 0 where we review tone, themes, boundaries, and expectations. I provide a Lines and Veils (or Safety Tools) document that players can fill out privately, and I check in individually if needed. During sessions, we use digital X/N/O cards (simple chat messages or icons) so players can signal discomfort discreetly at any time. If something crosses a boundary, we pause, rewind, or shift the scene without calling attention to anyone. I will make sure to clearly state any controversial themes within the game and make it clear to my players that their safety and comfort are my absolute priority. My goal is to create a table where everyone feels safe exploring big emotions, high stakes, and dramatic moments while always knowing their comfort comes first.
