About the adventure

STATUS: we are currently setting up the world and preparing for the 1st one-shot Run (that will also start the general story-arc along). So you may join to take part in creating the world & this 1st run. __________________ A player-centered campaign, where you, the Runners, decide where the missions occur (Night City, Neo-Tokyo...), how you work together (shared Fixer, for a Corp...), while I, the Keeper, create the runs you must undertake, leading to threats & setups to overcome... This is a campaign, hosted on Discord (with info' on Roll20), made of short adventures, all linked together by a story arc. Like episodes in one season of a series. All players are welcome, total beginners to RPGs too. Experience is less important than wanting to have fun & create cool stories.

About me

American-born living in France since childhood (bilingual). Started gaming with the old basic DnD. Played & GMed a lot of games (Vampire, WFRP, Pathfinder & Starfinder...) and more recently The One Ring, Alien RPG & The Walking Dead (Free League). Interested in player-facing games I have moved to PbtA (namely MotW). IRL feature-film, video-game & series screenwriter.

Character creation

Creating your character

You will create your own characters. It is a very simple & rapid process. Each type of runner (the Fixer, the Hacker, the Tech...) has a "playbook" that lists the choices you make to determine their stats, moves, gear... Fast. Then, you're good to go & start looking for the mission that will lead you to carrying out the legwork before the action starts... and you try to survive and earn some cred! The rules are very simple to learn, as you go.

The current party

You may choose among the 10 Playbooks from the Core Rules (Driver, Fixer, Hacker, Hunter, Infiltrator, Killer, Pusher, Reporter, Soldier & Tech). Welcome to the Sprawl!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To sign up & play, all you need is your enthusiasm... and the ability to join the game's Discord server, where all the info' will be, and where you & I will post our dialog & actions, and roll the dice, daily. You may also opt to use Roll20 (or GoogleDocs) for your character sheets, reading the rule book... But the game is made for you to do without that. You will decide what kind of runner you wish to portray, and receive all necessary tools to play them (the few pages of your "playbook"). The fee is a weekly sum, that covers seven days of gaming (168 hours!), with daily posts & activity, that you can read & answer at whatever time suits you best (this is asynchronous, not instant messaging).

What Eric C. brings to the table

The Sprawl is a player-centered game: you roll the dice, I, the Master of Ceremonies, do not. I react to your actions. Though I do set the stage, and get you your run, for which I know the actors, and the direction it is supposed to take. "Supposed" to... for you will surely derail the plan! There are people to question, legwork to do, actions to take, and a run to make, with at least one big final confrontation to win... and an overarching story to figure out. This is Play by Post, so you get my best writing, but no voices (which are not my strong point, so you are not missing out on anything!). I strive to use what you offer, set things up that will pay off several sessions down the line, and make every post lively, fun, & interesting. It's a game. For you & I to enjoy!

Homebrew rules

I am only using the The Sprawl core rulebook, none of the other books. This is a game for beginners too, so I am focusing on the core rules. Which are enough to have a good deal of fun!

Safety

How Eric C. creates a safe table

This is a game with action, violence, double-crossing, corporations that wish to use people... on as large a scale as they can. This could includes kids & animals. So, that is what you are stepping into. However, it is not a game of gratuitous violence, and will regularly fade to black. Nor is it one that allows any kind of sexual aggression; bigotry, sexism, racism, or other discrimination... We will see what specific lines you do not want crossed. And, given that you read & answer at your leisure, breaks are automatic.
