About the adventure

Welcome to the start of a fast-paced, player-driven anthology heist adventure. The Golden Vault thinks your party has what it takes to carry out a series of heists - few are legal, and all are important. Your quests, should you choose to undertake them, will be wild and various. From knocking over an infernal casino one day to stealing diamonds from the Feywild another, the only constant is your crew. Everyone will be welcome at this table, although the game will be geared towards beginners. More experienced players are more than welcome; it's always good to have one or two to act as good examples and help introduce new folk to the game we love. Before we start the game, we will be running a session 0 to build characters, fit them into the world of the Forgotten Realms, and try out the basics of D&D gameplay. Your first quest will concern the Murkmire Stone of Varkenbluff Museum. Speaking of which... "Greetings, operatives. The Golden Vault has learned that the egg of an eldrich horror has been mistaken for a historical object and is about to go on display at the Varkenbluff Museum of Natural History. If it hatches, many will die. You are required to infiltrate the museum, steal the egg, and return it to Dr Cassee Dannell, who will neutralize it. There's no time to waste; the egg could hatch at any moment. May Tymora favour your caper..."

About me

Ahoy! I'm a professional DM and voice actor who's been playing for 11 years and running games for 9. At my table, you'll find games with an emphasis on roleplaying and fun, but that doesn't mean leaving your combat brain at the door either. For a taste of my standard British accent narration, check the Youtube link to my voice reel below. I consider myself a capable teacher of the game, having introduced dozens of new people to it over the years. To facilitate this, every adventure is tailored for the players - before each campaign begins, we'll talk through the kind of story you'd like to tell together, and how that squares with what I've got prepared. I approach D&D as a collaborative storytelling exercise, so while I have an extensive homebrewed world and adventures ready, every player has the chance to dictate the nature of the world they're playing in. As for the world itself, if you like pirates, Greek gods, elements of the Forgotten Realms cosmology, and a tone shooting for somewhere between Tolkien and Pratchett, I'm the Dungeon Master for you!

Character creation

Creating your character

The Golden Vault is a covert but altruistic organisation, "Doing good, no matter the cost", as their motto goes. Their operations are often illegal, but they always support a just, moral cause. Adventurers working under them will take after this in some form or another, however the Vault is no stranger to working with those motivated solely by coin either. We'll be starting at Level 1, using roll4drop1 ability scores and milestone leveling. All WOTC official expansions are fine, although more outlandish creatures will need a good reason for being present for low level adventures. Most reasonable homebrew is fine, but please run it by me first before hinging your entire character on it. We will also be running a session 0 to go further into character creation and help anyone who needs it to get their head around the numbers. Uniquely to this adventure, you will have the option to change your character between heists; if your current character isn't sitting right, or you'd like to try out another class at a certain level, this can absolutely be accommodated.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before session 0, all you need is a webcam, a mic, a discord account, and somewhere to create your character - a paper sheet, d&d beyond, up to you. Before session 1, you'll need a roll20 account, an image for your character token, and some understanding of at least the rules that pertain directly to your character (their race, class and background for example). Feel free to message me with any questions :)

What Benjamin brings to the table

🗝️ Expect to spend time making a plan to execute the heist - it will take tremendous luck for rushing in spells blazing to not result in tremendous ruin. 💎 I run the game on Discord for speaking and Roll20 for combat. 🗝️ I make liberal use of in-character dialogue and encourage players to do the same. I also encourage players to argue their cases for things like unorthodox skill checks, however ask that you respect my final ruling. 💎I tend to encourage in-character roleplaying, player decision, and creative choices. Expect engaging story that you have a say in - give me a backstory with a couple of colourful characters in it, and they'll more than likely crop up somewhere in the adventure. 🗝️ I use background music for those who want it, but one of the reasons I run games on discord is that it can be turned down or off individually. I can supply pdfs of all core rulebooks and some snazzy character sheets. 💎And, finally, I'm a professional voice actor, so expect high-quality narration in terms of both content and sound quality - check my DM profile's Youtube link for some sample narration!

Safety

How Benjamin creates a safe table

Session 0 will involve character creation, and a discussion of any triggers players might have for one's own character and the game in general. With this being a beginner's game, one of my chief responsibilities will be helping you not getting lost in a 300 page rulebook, only 30 pages of which are likely relevant. The game itself will largely be story driven, but that doesn't mean you won't have think tactically and rely on your companions when you do get into combat. Fun is what we're all here for, and sometimes nothing is more fun than a well-applied fireball.
