About the adventure

This is a campaign run using: Jim Henson's - The Labyrinth - Adventure Game - RPG 🦉 Who will you be? A human, or a denizen-of-the-Labyrinth, or perhaps an altogether new creature? But more importantly, what has the Goblin King stolen from you? Things aren't always what they seem in this place, and the Labyrinth has a funny way of changing itself around you; you may found woven into the stone and hedges your dearest loves and your deepest fears ... Get ready for a mind-bending adventure to the glorious soundtrack of synth pop! A run through the Labyrinth takes approximately 5-6 play sessions. I can run the official rules as printed (perfect for first time TTRPG players) or customised rules for more advanced players. Both newbie and veteran players are welcome! Have your wits about you! There isn't much combat in this game - so you'll have to rely heavily on your imaginative thinking and ingenuity when dealing with the dangerous and unknown. I run safety cards and offer an LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent friendly space. Why not pop along to a Session Zero? Remember the Labyrinth is not a piece of cake! And the 13 hour clock has already begun to tick ... 🕰️

Character creation

Creating your character

You'll be guided through character creation in Session Zero. But you're welcome to start imagining who you'd like to be before then! The most important question to start thinking about is: "What has the Goblin King stolen from you?" It doesn't necessarily have to be a physical object, he may have stolen something more abstract like your memories, or your ability to sing. That which he has stolen will become your guiding motivator through the Labyrinth and inform much of your character and their decisions. The next thing to start thinking about is what sort of character you'd like to be. The ruleset has official rules for creatures that appear in the "Labyrinth" Film which are: - Human - Goblin 🐸 - Dwarf (such as Hoggle) - Horned Beast (such as Ludo) - Knight of Yore (such as Sir Didymus) - Fiery - Worm ☕ But feel free to come up with a character who may be a different creature altogether. For instance we know at least the following creatures also inhabit the Labyrinth: - Fairies 🧚 - Junk Ladies - Wiseman & hat - Chickens! 🐔 - (I'm sure there's more!) I'd be open to entertaining any creature that fits into the 80s fantasy sphere - if it could feature in something like The Dark Crystal or the Never-ending Story then I don't see why it wouldn't fit in Labyrinth. We can work together to adapt your character into the ruleset. So if you have your heart set on a different type of creature not mentioned above, bring the idea along with you to Session Zero and we can see how we'll make it work for the Labyrinth game.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Re-watching Labyrinth is probably the best way to prepare! - Roll20 and Discord accounts are required by players. Links to both will supplied - I'll invite you to fill out a Lines & Veils Document - Working microphone is essential - (Webcams optional)

What Alexander brings to the table

The game is theatre of the mind, but I supply a LOT of visual aids and ambient music for immersion. I use a combination of custom art that I have made and AI art. You won't need to keep track of a character sheet; all your info will be laid out on the virtual tabletop. Everything you need will be presented to you and accessible at all times, so you won't need to worry about paperwork, you can just focus on the story and the choices you make.

Homebrew rules

The game mechanics as written rely on only using a D6. I think it's more enjoyable to convert to a D20 instead to add extra drama to high and low rolls. We can discuss this in Session Zero. I'm also keen to hear any rules or suggestions that you think would enhance the game!

How Alexander creates a safe table

In Session Zero we will establish the boundaries of what everyone is comfortable with. You will have the ability to flag me privately during a play session if you feel uncomfortable for any reason. If you require the game to stop, it will immediately, and I will do so without drawing attention as to why.
